We all have an ideal appearance in our minds but only few individuals can actually achieve a flawless look through dieting and weight loss. For others, cosmetic procedures are the best option which provide quick and lasting results for all parts of the body. Some of the most popular plastic surgeries include thigh and butt lift, arm reshaping, breasts reshaping and rhinoplasty. These cosmetic treatments are offered by expert surgeons and aesthetic clinics. The longevity of the outcome of plastic surgeries depends on how well an individual follows the necessary precautions and guidelines in the long run. Some people may require revision surgeries or minimal follow up procedures to prolong the effects of body contouring.

Individuals often opt for plastic surgeries that target their legs (especially thighs), arms, buttocks, breasts, and nose. Some procedures that are used to reshape and contour these parts of the body are briefly explained below.

Thigh Lift

A thigh lift or thighplasty can be a means of removing loose skin and excess fat from the inner or outer thigh. The loose skin may be a result of drastic fat loss or increasing age. At times, only fat removal through liposuction is sufficient to contour the thighs because the patient’s skin can adjust to this change on its own, other times very little amount of fat is removed. However, when the thigh cannot gain a definite shape on its own, the skin is left drooping. A thigh lift helps get rid of the fat and sagging skin to improve an individual’s appearance. Some people also give up on their dieting plans after trying to lose weight for months and go for a thigh lift instead.

There are various types of thigh lifts that depend on the area of the thigh which requires contouring such as inner thigh lifts, outer thigh lifts, vertical thigh lifts, and spiral thigh lifts. A surgeon will examine a person’s case, make sure they’re otherwise medically fit for this surgery, and suggest the best form of thigh lift as desired by the recipient. In case you still want to lose weight, don’t go for a thigh lift till you achieve your goal weight because the skin can become droopy all over again. If a person regains weight after the surgery, it can also take away the effect of the thigh lift. For lasting results, it is important to maintain a healthy lifestyle which doesn’t lead to gaining or losing a lot of weight in a short period of time.

Butt Reshaping

If exercise and physical activity is not helping you improve the appearance of your buttocks, you might want to look into the available options of cosmetic surgery to reshape it. A butt lift surgery may include fat grafting or implants to reshape the buttocks, it may also include the removal of excess fat and skin tightening in the case of size reduction.

Fat Grafting: If there is presence of fat in another part of the body such as the hips, arms, or thighs, the surgeon will transfer this fat to the buttocks. Liposuction will be required to remove the fat which is then processed before it’s injected into the buttocks. Through this procedure, the buttocks are reshaped to achieve a certain appearance or to be increased in size.

Implants: Butt implants are made using silicone which are injected through small incisions made between the two butt cheeks or under them, depending on the area that has to be contoured. The implants are either placed on top of the underlying muscles or between them. It’s a more advanced and long-lasting treatment compared to fat grafting. There’s a high success rate of this surgery and recipients are usually happy with the results.

Size Reduction And Contouring: The fat from the buttocks is removed through liposuction. The area is numbed using a local anesthetic and a small ultrasound probe is inserted through minute incisions to melt the fatty tissues before it can be removed from the buttocks. The skin is also tightened and reshaped in this procedure for a defined shape.

After a buttocks reshaping procedure, it’s advised that the individual doesn’t sit for too long to avoid putting pressure on the surgical wounds. This precaution is usually observed for upto 2 to 3 weeks for complete recovery. A patient should also steer clear of intense physical activity and exercises for upto 2 to 3 months, unless the surgeon says otherwise.

Arm Reshaping

Arm lift or arm reshaping is the cosmetic surgery that improves the appearance of the arms by removing sagging skin and excessive fat tissues. When a person loses a lot of weight, their skin cannot adjust with their new muscle structure due to lost elasticity. This is when many people opt for an arm lift. Increasing age can also play a major role in sagging skin and unsightly appearance of the upper arm.

A local sedative injection or general anesthesia may be administered to the patient before the treatment. During an arm lift surgery, the surgeon makes incisions on the underside of the arm which depend on the area to be treated and the amount of fat and skin which has to be removed. Through liposuction, the excessive fat may be removed after it’s been melted using heat energy from a high intensity ultrasound device. The surgeon then tightens the underlying tissues and the skin around the arm for contouring. After the procedure is complete, the incisions are closed with stitches.

If a surgeon suspects unusual bleeding, a drainage tube may be inserted in the arm to clear the blood if it’s accumulated in the surgical area after the arm lift procedure. The recipient will be advised to limit their activities with the treated arm and keep it in a stable position for fast recovery. In case of unbearable pain and continuous bleeding, medical help should be sought out immediately to avoid complications.

Nose Reshaping (Rhinoplasty)

Nose reshaping also known as rhinoplasty is the cosmetic procedure that improves the appearance of the nose, aligns it with other facial features, and can also help with breathing problems by targeting the inside of the nose. There are two major types of rhinoplasty; open rhinoplasty and closed rhinoplasty.

Open Rhinoplasty: If extensive reshaping is required, the surgeon will suggest to perform open rhinoplasty nose reshaping. The incisions are made on the skin between the two nostrils which is uplifted to carry out the procedure. The nasal structure is completely exposed for detailed manipulation.

Closed Rhinoplasty: As the name suggests, the incisions are made on the inside of the nose. This type of rhinoplasty is chosen when minimal restructuring of the nose is required. The results may include an improved appearance of the nose, straighter and more contoured structure, and ease in breathing.

The nose is expected to swell and the patient will feel pain in the treated area. The face may also appear puffy which is most likely to subside in a couple of days. The surgeon may prescribe medication to deal with discomfort, swelling, and any possible infections.

Breast Reshaping

Every woman wants an ideal body shape and type. Some resort to dieting and weight loss to achieve their dream appearance while others go for cosmetic procedures including breast reshaping. There are various ways to reshape the breasts depending on how an individual wants to alter the shape of their breasts.

Breast Reduction: The reasons for this choice might be neck pain, back pain, and tiredness due to the weight of the breasts. Sometimes a woman may want to make her breasts proportional with other parts of her body, and so they opt for breast reduction with lift. The excessive fat and tissues are removed from the breast to decrease them in size in this procedure.

Breast Augmentation: Fat grafting or breast implants may be used to perform breast augmentation. It can result in increasing the size of the breasts or contouring them. A breast augmentation is a perfect option for reshaping the breasts and enhancing their appearance.

Breast Tightening: In case of drooping breasts with sagging skin, breast tightening is opted for. The excessive skin is removed by the surgeon while the remaining is uplifted and tightened around the remaining structure.

Body contouring and weight loss treatments or procedures are commonly thought of as only for women, but that is farthest from the truth. These treatments and procedures are just as much of a necessity for men too. We caught up with some of the Haute Beauty Experts to learn more about the transformative body procedures for men and get insight into the surgeon’s approach to get the most natural-appearing results.

Male Tummy Tuck

Dr. Kiran Gill, Body Expert, Naples FL

In male Tummy Tuck patients, excess skin is removed from the lower abdomen just as in female patients. What differs in the male is the need for rectus muscle plication. In female patients, I plicate the rectus muscles in over 95% of patients because with pregnancy these muscles spread apart. In Male, there is rarely rectus muscle diastasis that needs to be repaired.

Good candidates for male tummy tucks are usually men that have lost a fair amount of weight, leaving loose skin throughout the abdomen. The scar lies low, just like in females; therefore there is no issue going to the beach or pool in swimwear.

Male Breast Removal Surgery

Dr. Rian Maercks, Breast Expert, Miami/Fort Lauderdale

Gynecomastia is the abnormal growth of breast tissue in males and is multifactorial but can be commonly caused by the use of anabolic steroids. It is important to understand the cause before treating a patient. Depending on the findings, treatments can include liposuction techniques, excision through hidden scars, and complete reconstruction of the male chest, much like a female to male chest surgery.

Keys to the treatment are removing the excess tissue and creating a masculine chest form while hiding scars and using them to augment the result. Sometimes fat grafting is used as well.

We commonly use advanced techniques with liposuction to create a natural-appearing “etched” abdominal area which allows the naturally beautiful muscular contours to show through. This must be done artfully to respect the overall composition and form of the individual patient’s body. It is very important to assess and highlight the underlying anatomical contours so that even if the patient gains or loses weight, the results persist and keep a naturally toned appearance. The patient has minimal recovery and the whole experience is generally pain-free allowing the patient to carry on with regular life and work as if nothing happened.

Melatonin is a hormone that your body naturally produces. It plays a role in regulating your sleep-wake cycle.

There’s also a lab-made version of melatonin that’s available as an over-the-counter supplement. Some people use melatonin supplements to help with sleep problems like jet lag and insomnia.

In this article we’ll explore how exactly melatonin works and whether it’s safe to take melatonin supplements every night.

How does melatonin work?

Natural melatonin is predominantly made in your pineal gland, which is located in your brain. Light exposure inhibits the production of melatonin, but darkness stimulates it.

Melatonin levels in your brain begin to increase at dusk as the sun goes down and darkness falls. They reach their peak levels in the middle of the night and start decreasing as dawn gets closer.

The action of melatonin inhibits signals in your brain that promote wakefulness. This helps encourage sleep by making you feel tired or drowsy as you get closer to bedtime.

Because of melatonin’s sleep-promoting effects, melatonin supplements are used to treat a variety of sleep problems. These can include:

insomnia

jet lag

shift work sleep disorder

delayed sleep-wake phase disorder

sleep problems in children with autism or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)

What’s a safe dosage?

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) doesn’t regulate melatonin as a drug. Because of this, there’s limited information on the optimal, safe dosage of melatonin.

In fact, the doses of melatonin supplements that have been used in various scientific studies vary widely, from 0.1 to 10 milligrams (mg)Trusted Source. One 2017 review defines a typical dose of melatonin to be between 1 and 5 mgTrusted Source.

Melatonin typically takes 1 to 2 hours to work, so it’s often taken up to 2 hours before bedtime.

If you’re looking to try melatonin for the first time, it may be best to begin with a lower dose. Your doctor can help recommend a safe dose for you to start with.

Melatonin for children

Like melatonin for adults, there’s not much information on the optimal, safe dosage for children. Dosage may also vary depending on a child’s age. One 2016 reviewTrusted Source suggests the following age-based dosages 30 to 60 minutes before bedtime:

1 mg for infants

2.5 to 3 mg for older children

5 mg for adolescents

Because there aren’t clear dosing guidelines regarding melatonin for children, be sure to speak to your child’s pediatrician before giving melatonin to your child.

Melatonin for older adults

The amount of melatonin your body produces decreases with age. Because of this, melatonin supplements may be helpful for older adults who are having trouble falling asleep.

Researchers are still looking into the optimal melatonin dosage for older adults. One 2016 review of sleep aids for older adults suggests a dosage of 1 to 2 mg of immediate-release melatonin 1 hour before bedtime.

What to know about dietary supplements and safety

The FDA classifies melatonin as a dietary supplement, meaning that it’s regulated less strictly than a regular drug. For dietary supplements, label claims and product safety don’t have to meet FDA approval before they’re marketed.

A 2017 studyTrusted Source of 31 different melatonin supplements found that the actual melatonin content of 71 percent of the products didn’t match the claim on the label. Additionally, 26 percent of products contained serotonin, which can be potentially harmful even in small doses.

When shopping for melatonin supplements, look for products that are “USP verified.” United States Pharmacopeia (USP) is an independent organization that works to ensure proper quality and dosing of dietary supplements.

Are there any risks involved with taking melatonin every night?

According to the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH), short-term use of melatonin supplements appears to be safe for most adults and children. However, information on the effects of long-term melatonin supplements is limited.

Some studiesTrusted Source have indicated that long-term melatonin use in adults may cause mild side effects when compared to a placebo. Studies into the effects of long-term melatonin use in children remains limited.

Because melatonin levels naturally decrease at the beginning of puberty, there’s some concern that long-term melatonin use in children may delay puberty onset. However, more researchTrusted Source is needed.

What happens if you take too much melatonin?

Melatonin is generally safe. However, mild side effectsTrusted Source can sometimes occur, particularly if you take higher doses or extended-release formulations.

The side effects of melatonin can include:

feeling drowsy or sleepy

headache

dizziness

nausea

increased urination or bedwetting (children)

Some less common side effects of melatonin include:

irritability

abdominal cramps

mild tremors

feelings of depression or anxiety

confusion or disorientation

low blood pressure (hypotension)

If you experience side effects from melatonin, stop taking it and speak with your doctor. They may recommend using a lower dose or trying out an alternative medication or sleep aid.

Is it safe to take more than one dose during the night?

You may be wondering what happens if you take a dose of melatonin and find that you still can’t fall asleep. Can you take another dose?

While taking an additional dose is unlikely to cause harm, it may increase your risk for experiencing unwanted side effects.

If you find that melatonin isn’t helping you fall asleep, stop using it. Your doctor may be able to suggest different medications or strategies to help you fall asleep.

Can melatonin interact with other substances?

There are some important things to know about melatonin, its interactions with other substances, and when it’s best to avoid it. Let’s take a closer look.

What medications and substances does melatonin interact with?

Melatonin may interact with several different types of medications, including:

Blood-thinning medications. Taking melatonin with blood-thinning medication may increase your risk for bleeding.

Epilepsy medications (anticonvulsants). Melatonin may make these medications less effective.

Immunosuppressants. Melatonin can potentially interfere with immunosuppressive drugs.

Diabetes medications. Melatonin use can affect blood sugar levels.

Blood pressure medications. Blood pressure may get worse when melatonin is taken with these medications.

Contraceptive drugs. Birth control pills may increase the risk of side effects from melatonin.

Because melatonin supplements can make you tired and drowsy, avoid mixing them with:

other sleep aids

central nervous system depressants

alcohol

Are there any people who should avoid taking melatonin?

There’s limited research into the safety of using melatonin supplements during pregnancy. Also, while melatonin is a normal component of breast milk, there’s little research into the effects of taking melatonin supplements while breastfeeding.

Because of this, it’s best to avoid taking melatonin if you’re:

pregnant

planning to become pregnant

breastfeeding

Additionally, it’s important to speak to your doctor before using melatonin if you have:

an autoimmune condition

epilepsy

kidney disease

liver disease

had a previous allergic reaction to melatonin

When to see your doctor about sleep issues

It’s a good idea to schedule an appointment with your doctor or healthcare provider if you notice that you:

frequently have trouble falling asleep or staying asleep at night

often feel drowsy or tired during the day

have trouble performing your daily activities

Your doctor will work with you to discuss your sleep routine and lifestyle habits. They may also ask you to keep a sleep diary to track the amount of sleep you’re getting over a period of time.

It’s also possible that your doctor will perform a physical exam and order blood tests. These can help them rule out a medical condition that may be causing your sleep issues.

Source – https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/

Researchers have uncovered new clues to the mystery of how the gut’s nervous system affects glucose metabolism in the rest of the body. Their findings could lead to new treatments for type 2 diabetes.

Type 2 diabetes causes the body’s cells to become less sensitive to signals from insulin, the hormone responsible for regulating levels of glucose in the blood.

This low sensitivity is called insulin resistance, and it keeps the cells from absorbing the extra glucose that enters the bloodstream after a meal.

Over time, high concentrations of glucose in the blood damage tissues all over the body, causing complications such as heart disease, vision loss, and kidney disease.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimate that more than 30 million people in the United States have type 2 diabetes.

Changes to the diet, exercise, and other aspects of life can improve symptoms and even reverse the condition in some people. Drugs are also available to treat type 2 diabetes, but they can cause side effects such as nausea and diarrhea.

Another drawback to some antidiabetic drugs is that they have to be injected.

Discovering oral treatments that are not only effective but also free of side effects is therefore a priority for diabetes researchers.

Now, a group of scientists, many affiliated with the French National Institute of Health and Medical Research, or INSERM, in Toulouse, believe that they are a step closer to developing such a treatment. They have published their findings in the journal Gut.

Friendly bacteria

This latest research builds on previous work suggesting that fat, or lipid, molecules produced by “friendly” gut bacteria can improve blood glucose metabolism.

These lipids are thought to influence the gut-brain axis — the vital two-way communication between the brain and the gut’s highly developed nervous system, also known as the enteric nervous system or “second brain.”

In type 2 diabetes, communication between the gut and brain appears to break down. As a result, after a meal, the brain fails to send signals to the liver, muscles, and fat tissue telling them to absorb more glucose from the bloodstream. This, in turn, leads to insulin resistance.

Normally the duodenum, the first part of the small intestine, signals to the brain, which involves a relaxation of the smooth muscles in its lining. In individuals with type 2 diabetes, however, these muscles are permanently contracted, or hypercontractile, so the signal is never sent.

The researchers believe that friendly gut bacteria are the key to reversing hypercontractility and restoring healthy glucose metabolism.

Nutrients that feed friendly bacteria are called prebiotics. In particular, carbohydrates called fructooligosaccharides (FOS) are known to promote the growth of bacteria that improve glucose metabolism through the production of various lipids.

However, the identity of these lipids has remained unknown until now.

The team discovered that the only lipid with significantly increased levels in the colons of the FOS mice was a lipid called 12-HETE.

When they fed 12-HETE to diabetic mice, the lipid not only reduced duodenal hypercontraction but also improved the mice’s blood glucose levels.

To explore whether these results applied to humans, the scientists analyzed biopsies from the duodenums of people with type 2 diabetes who had received antidiabetic treatments and those of healthy volunteers who had not.

They found that there was 38% less 12-HETE in the duodenums of the people with diabetes, compared with the healthy volunteers. The researchers acknowledge that this finding was not statistically significant, but also point to the small numbers of volunteers in their study.

Finally, they showed that 12-HETE reduces muscle contraction in the duodenum by boosting the signal from a nerve receptor called the mu-opioid receptor. This restored communication between the gut and the brain.

Source:timesofindia.indiatimes.com

A human body consists of 600 different kinds of muscles. But whenever we are exercising, we focus on only a few of them. For men, guns, pecs and abs are the three prominent group of muscles and for women, butt, arms and tummy are the main areas of concern. What about other muscles?

The main purpose of exercising or building muscles is not only to get a chiselled body, but to make it flexible, strong and decrease the risk of injury. So it is not right to focus only on a few muscles and leave the rest. Every muscle has an important role to play. Here are the 5 most neglected muscles of the body that you should start training right now.

Not a lot of people pay attention to gluteus medius and minimus, the focus is always on the gluteus maximus. However, your maximus muscle cannot reach its full potential without gluteus medius and minimus. These two muscles help to stabilise the pelvis. Whether you are walking, climbing stairs or rotating your hips, the flexibility and strength of gluteus medius and minimus are important.

Shoulder injuries are very common among fitness enthusiasts or athletes and the reason is stiff rotator cuff muscles. A rotator cuff is a group of four muscles that come together to form a cuff over the head of the upper arm bone. It helps to stabilise the shoulder joints and to stretch the hand in different directions. It is important to train this muscle to prevent any kind of injury.

Adductors are a group of four muscles that are located in the inner thigh. They are one of the three powerful muscles of the human thigh. Even then people mostly ignore these muscles. Both men and women should pay attention to strengthening their adductors. This group of muscles help in the movement of legs and perform daily activities like running and walking.

While trying to get six-pack abs, we often forget about our back muscles. The lower trapezius muscle is located just under our shoulder blades and helps in preventing shoulder pain. The exercises we mostly do target our upper trapezius. Lower trapezius muscles help to rotate our shoulder blades and play a major role in keeping our posture correct while walking or sitting. By targeting this muscle, you can get a nice sculpted back.

While aiming for strong biceps and triceps, our hands and forearm muscles are often ignored. But you cannot deny the fact that these are most prominent muscles of the body. To do any work like holding dumbells or carrying out any activity in daily life, it is important to have a strong grip. By neglecting this group of muscle, you are actually compromising on your grip strength.

5 common mistakes people make while running on a treadmill

Are you making these mistakes!

A treadmill is unquestionably one of the most popular workout machines. Whenever you step into a gym, you will find people roaming around it waiting for their turn. Rarely you will see it vacant. It is the best machine for those who do not have time to run outdoors. But simply putting one foot in front of the other on the treadmill won’t help you much. Running on a treadmill might look like a simple exercise to you, but doing it mindlessly might sabotage your workout and even cause injury.

Here are 5 common mistakes most people make while running on a treadmill.

You are taking long strides

It is obvious to worry about your strides when you are running on a treadmill. But this can divert your focus and you might fall. Don’t stress a lot about it. Your legs will figure out the distance on its own. If you are constantly looking down and purposely trying to take big steps, your body weight will land in front of you, which is not so good for the knees.

You are holding the bar

If you are someone who holds the bar of the treadmill all the time then there is bad news for you. First of all, you are actually burning fewer calories by not swinging your hands and secondly, you are messing up with your posture. Try to walk naturally as you would normally walk outdoors. If you are finding it difficult to keep up with the pace then reduce the speed or reduce the incline.

You are not doing warm-up

Warm-up is necessary before and after every workout and the same rule applies when you run on a treadmill. Most people just jump on the treadmill and start running at a fast speed. Their body cannot maintain the pace for a very long time and as a result, the speed decreases. The best way to run on a treadmill is to start slow. Begin with walking, then jog and then start running. This way you will burn more calories and won’t hurt yourself.

You are doing the same exercise

There are multiple exercises that you can do on a treadmill. You might be comfortable with the kind of exercise you are doing right now, but it is important to change your workout plan from time to time. When you follow the same routine, your body starts burning fewer calories. After every two-three weeks change your workout routine.

Holding the breath is the most common mistake people make while performing any kind of workout. Just like your legs, your lungs are also good at doing their job. You have to keep breathing while running. Do not hold your breath or try to control it. Stay calm and keep moving.

4 lunges everyone must try to flex their hip muscles

Do these moves daily!

Your hips have numerous roles to play every day. It is not only necessary for moving your body but is also crucial for performing daily activities like getting out of a chair, walking or performing any workout. This is why it is important to have flexible hip muscles to easily perform such day to day tasks. Sitting on a chair all day long can make our muscles stiff, limit our movement and increase the risk of injury. Flexible hip muscles are important to maintain the stability and balance of the body.

The easiest and effective exercise to flex your hips muscles is lunges. Lunges is a lower-body exercise that works on several muscle groups at once. The exercise primarily focuses on your hip, butt, hamstring, thighs and calf muscles. Here are four kinds of lunges you can perform to relax your hip muscles.

Forward lunges

Step 1: Stand on the ground with your feet hip-width apart. Keep both your hands on your hips.

Step 2: Move your right leg 1 feet forward and lower your body until both your front and back leg make a 90 degrees angle.

Step 3: Keep your right knees perpendicular to your toes and bend your left leg without touching the floor.

Step 4: Pause for 2-3 seconds. Then press into right heel to drive back up to starting position.

Step 6: Repeat the same with the left leg.

Reverse Lunges

Step 1: Stand on the ground with your feet hip-width apart and hands by your side.

Step 2: Take your right foot back (at least 1 foot), bend both your knees to make a 90-degree angle.

Step 3: Keep your right knees perpendicular to your hips and left knees perpendicular to your toes.

Step 4: Pause for 2-3 seconds. Then press into right heel to drive back up to starting position.

Step 6: Repeat the same with the other leg.

Lateral Lunges

Step 1: Stand straight on the ground with your feet together and your hands on your hips.

Step 2: Take a big step (about 1 foot) to your right. This is your starting point.

Step 3: Now hinge forward at the hips, push your butt back, and bend your right knee to lower into a lunge position.

Step 3: Pause for a second. Then come back to the starting position.

Step 4: Repeat the same with the alternate leg.

Source: hollywoodlife.com

Jennifer Aydin took HollywoodLife inside her weight loss journey and plastic surgery transformation in a brand new interview on Sunday, November 24 — just two days after undergoing a tummy tuck on the 22nd. The Real Housewives of New Jersey star, 42, said the procedure, which was performed by her husband, Dr. Bill Aydin, 41, was a complete success. And, she’s already up and walking around just days later.

“Getting a tummy tuck was something that I’d been contemplating ever since I had my fifth child, Olivia,” Jennifer admitted during our exclusive interview. However, she held off on getting the surgery because of how “brutal” she heard the recovery process would be. “I had to make sure I waited until a time when all my kids were pretty much self-sufficient and did not need mommy to carry them anymore,” she admitted.

Jennifer went on to explain that choosing to get a tummy tuck helped with her weight loss. “Being the wife of a plastic surgeon, I know that the way to have the best result [with a tummy tuck] is when you’re able to lose the most amount of fat,” she revealed. “And, I was thick for a while after Olivia, so it wasn’t something that was on my radar. I still never considered it until I felt I was thin enough. But, once I lost all the weight, all of the stretching my skin did with Olivia (known as diastases) became an inconvenience and very physically apparent in my clothing,” Jennifer said, which motivated her to go through with the tummy tuck.

So far, because she dropped weight to prepare for the surgery, Jen has lost a total of 25 pounds. And, she’s happy with her recovery so far, although it takes a lot of focus and patience.

“The recovery process for a tummy tuck is definitely a commitment. You have to make sure that you don’t have anything on your plate for the next couple weeks,” she admitted, explaining that every patient is different. “I’m definitely hunched over, but I’m walking around more than I thought I would. It’s not as bad as I had anticipated.”

Despite loving her results thus far, Jen most likely won’t go under the knife again.

“As of now, I do not want any more plastic surgery,” she said before clearing up other false rumors about her cosmetic history. “And just to point out, all the plastic surgery I’ve ever had has only been on my body. Aside from some Botox and fillers, the face remains the same. I’ve had some people accuse me of getting a nose job, which sometimes I am grateful for, but it is not the case,” she explained. “But, I promise you that if I ever decide to get a nose job, it’s no surprise that I will probably let the whole world know.”

When asked if she plans to lose more weight, Jennifer said, “I don’t think I’ll go down in size that much.” Why? — “I did not have any liposuction done this time. My husband told me there was no fat left, it was only just excess skin. The only difference is before, the diastases I had in my lower belly made it look like I had this forever pouch. That will now be gone” because of the tummy tuck, she said. “But I really won’t know my size until I’m done healing in six months to a year. I do, however, think my butt is going to look much bigger since my waist will be so small.”

At the end of the day, Jennifer admitted that she’s got no one to impress but her husband, who is her biggest supporter when it comes to her plastic surgery. “He thought after my weight loss that I was the perfect candidate for a tummy tuck. So, he was excited to do it, and he’s done hundreds with fantastic results,” she gushed.

Source: newbeauty.com.

More than 1.5 million tummy tuck procedures were performed last year alone. The surgery, which involves removing fat and sagging excess skin and repairing the muscles that have become stretched out, continues to be one of the most sought-after aesthetic procedures. But like any other type of plastic surgery, doing your homework is crucial to managing realistic expectations and a best-in-class outcome.

Here, tummy-tuck expert and Voorhees Township, NJ plastic surgeon William Franckle, MD outlines six things to know before scheduling your surgery.

There are different types of tummy tucks.
The two main types are a traditional tummy tuck (or abdominoplasty) and a reverse tummy tuck (or reverse abdominoplasty). A traditional tummy tuck addresses both the upper and lower abdomen. “The procedure involves removing fat and loose skin, as well as repairing the abdominal muscles that have separated during pregnancy, weight fluctuation or natural aging,” explains Dr. Franckle. “A traditional tummy tuck is ideal for people who have lost weight and have left over loose skin—this procedure works from the chest down to the waistline.”

Dr. Franckle explains that a reverse tummy tuck was designed to tighten the abdomen of patients who may have had previous surgeries, such as an open-incision gall bladder removal, “which makes the lower incision of the traditional tummy tuck dangerous because of alteration of the blood supply.” Although a reverse abdominoplasty removes fat and skin from the upper abdomen well, Dr. Franckle contends “it does not do as good a job on the lower abdomen, especially if there is overhanging skin at the waist line. It is not performed very often.”

However, there are also many variations of a traditional abdominoplasty, which Dr. Franckle says are chosen based on the unique needs of every patient. “If you are looking to reduce excess fat on your abdomen, a full tummy tuck, mini tummy tuck or liposuction alone may be your best option. Generally, if loose skin and/or stretch marks are a concern, experts prefer a tummy tuck over liposuction. “A consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon can determine which tummy tuck technique is best for you.

You might not be the best candidate.
Generally, Dr. Franckle describes a good candidate for a tummy tuck as someone who is physically healthy, at a stable weight, a nonsmoker and someone with realistic expectations for what can be achieved with surgery. “Patients who are morbidly obese or have other serious health problems may need to have these problems addressed before considering plastic surgery,” says Dr. Franckle. “Bariatric surgery can also assist the morbidly obese patient with achieving significant weight loss and overall improvement of their health status prior to plastic surgery.”

If you’re a smoker, Dr. Franckle advises quitting at least one month prior to surgery. “Smoking increases the risk of a poor outcome—from the quality of healing to more serious problems such as blood clots, wound breakdown and more.”

You’ll need to plan for a long recovery.
A typical recovery for a tummy tuck is between two and six weeks, but most of the bruising and swelling will dissipate within this period. “In my practice, most people return to work in an office environment after 10 days,” says Dr. Franckle. “Full recovery for vacations or activities that may involve swimming or hiking can be as soon as two months. Full healing and maturation of scars may take from 9 months to a year or more, depending on the patient.”

Insurance probably won’t cover your surgery.
The average cost for a tummy tuck can range anywhere from $6,000 to 12,000 or sometimes even more. “Because a tummy tuck is a cosmetic procedure, health insurance plans do not usually cover the surgery,” says Dr. Franckle. “Sometimes an associated hernia or chronic skin irritation may give some insurance coverage depending on the health plan.”

There’s a high level of risk.
Due to the advanced nature of the procedure, tummy tucks have a very high rate of complication—many experts agree it has the highest rate of all plastic-surgery procedures. “Most patients are familiar with the look of a tummy tuck scar across the lower waistline, but what they don’t see is the underlying process that mobilizes and advances the tissue in order to remove the excess and create a pleasing body contour,” says Dr. Franckle.

The most common complications include delayed wound healing, minor skin infections and fluid collections (aka seromas). “Less common complications are poor scar healing requiring revision, persistent seromas and blood clots leading to pulmonary embolism. Generally, the sooner the patient is up and moving around, the better to prevent these problems.”

Seeing an expert is critical to a proper outcome.
Prior to booking your procedure, Dr. Franckle offers up this helpful list of questions to ask your surgeon: Are you certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery? Were you trained specifically in the field of plastic surgery? How many procedures of this type have you performed? Do you have hospital privileges to perform this procedure? If so, at which hospitals? Am I a good candidate for this procedure? What can I expect for my recovery and post procedure visits to your office?

As with any surgery, the risks of a tummy tuck must be recognized prior to having the procedure, as should the vetting of a proper board-certified plastic surgeon. “Your plastic surgeon should be able to give you a realistic assessment of your expected results with a particular procedure and discuss any specific risks that may make one type of surgery a better or safer choice over another option,” says Dr. Franckle.

Liposuction is that the gold commonplace methodology to produce permanent spot reduction and contour improvement in areas laid low with excess fatty deposits. Your fat cells are distributed throughout your body early in life, as determined by your biology. Fat cells cannot migrate or multiply, and once they’re removed, they cannot return. Therefore, any contour improvement achieved with liposuction is a permanent improvement and can persist, not with standing a patient gains weight.
Suction-assisted reconstructive surgery typically takes an hour or 2; however the time needed could vary significantly — from thirty minutes to many hours, betting on the area and quantity being suctioned.

Liposuction is a cosmetic procedure that’s accustomed trim and reshapes hassle areas of the body that diet and exercise can’t appear to focus on.
A plastic surgery addict has spent more than £150,000 to “perfect” her look – including a rib removal, size 28L breast implants, a resculpted face and Brazilian butt lifts.

Kristen Snider, 28, sees her body as a “canvas” and plans to spend another £25,000 at least to alter her appearance even though her family don’t approve and fear her cosmetic obsession will kill her.

The IT support specialist said she always hated the reflection she saw in the mirror and wanted to change so much of her figure since she was a teenager.

Classmates at school teased her over her appearance and at 18 her frame was slim, but she desired feminine curves.

In March 2010, aged 18, Kristen underwent her first breast augmentation with 550cc implants to enhance her 32B chest.

She felt so happy with her body and she cried tears of joy when she saw the results.

Since 2010, Kristen has had over 20 cosmetic procedures, including a second breast augmentation with 1,500cc implants, rib removal, two bum lifts and bum implants.

She has also had three rhinoplasties, cheek implants, forehead implants, fat removal and lip injections.

Kristen loves her body now and feels proud of what she and her surgeons have achieved so far.

Although she still wants to have more procedures, her family is not as pleased with her transformed look.

She admits that she receives many stares when she is out in public and some people criticise her appearance.

But she has urged them to accept other people’s appearances because no-one is getting hurt by her cosmetic surgeries and her choices should be respected.

Kristen said: “I was frequently made fun of in school and that forced me to learn to not care what other people think of myself and my choices.

“Being a perfectionist, ambitious and creative is a quick way to become a plastic surgery addict.

“I never used to like what I saw in the mirror as I wasn’t happy with my body.

“I saw a lot that I didn’t like which I wanted to improve.

“When I was 18, I was fairly small chested with a 32B bra size. I wanted to have a fuller chest, so I had my first breast implants which were 550cc, costing £5,800.

“After surgery, I was so happy that I actually cried. It made me realise that if you’re smart about how you do it, you really can have almost anything done and achieve whatever look you want.

“My first breast augmentation was the gateway which helped me catch the bug for more plastic surgery.

“The recovery wasn’t bad, and it proved that what I wanted was possible. The image of the ideal body that I had in my head could be achieved.”

She added: “Two years after, I had a few procedures done to resculpt my face in June 2012.

“I had jaw contouring, chin contouring, a lip lift, rhinoplasty, cheek implants, forehead reshaping and a brow lift.

“My first Brazilian butt lift was in December 2015 and I had another butt lift in December 2018 and I then had 500cc bum implants put in too.

“I had a second rhinoplasty in January 2016, a second chin reshaping, jaw reshaping and a fat graft to my forehead in December 2017.

“I have also had three lip augmentations in 2018, the three ribs removed in October 2018 and my current 1500cc breast implants done in January 2019 and I am now a 28L.”

Kristen sees her body as a blank canvas she can alter to create the ‘ideal’ body she wants for herself.

She plans to undergo more procedures including rib narrowing, hip implants, thigh implants and larger bum implants.

She added: “I view my body as a canvas and surgery as the tool to achieve the image I have of myself in my head.

“I’ve always wanted extreme curves and I’m a very sexual person.

“In the last nine years, surgery has opened the door for me to express myself through my image.

“I feel that if nobody is being hurt and you’re happy, then what we choose to do with our bodies should be respected.

“My family doesn’t like it as they’ve always been more conventional in what they consider attractive.

“They worry that one day this could kill me.

“I get lots of stares from men checking me out and sometimes from women as well.

“However, living in Virginia, where people are very conservative, I occasionally get nasty glances and side eyes.

“I’m used to it though as I have a very thick skin – you have to when you do this to your body.

“There are many procedures I’d still like to have in the future though. I’d like to have a rib narrowing procedure, implants in my hips and thighs, another breast augmentation to take me to 2500cc and more facial reshaping.

“I’m constantly learning about new procedures and adding them to my list, so I’m sure the list will continue to grow.

“We all have our own opinions on what is beautiful.

“We can’t try to push our ideals on others.

“I also believe that if you’re unhappy with something you should never settle, you should fight for a solution to make it work instead.

“Surgical techniques are always improving so there’s a way to change almost anything.

“I think we should all focus on growing and evolving.

“Most importantly, be accepting of other peoples’ choices.

“Be kind, all that matters is happiness.”
