Kuala Lumpur police chief Commissioner Datuk Saiful Azly Kamaruddin today said soon after the victim received an injection from the beautician, she suffered breathlessness and turned pale.

He said the beautician called for an ambulance and the victim was rushed to a hospital but was pronounced dead by doctors.

Saiful said the 49-year-old beautician and her 23-year-old daughter were arrested following the incident and are being held under a remand order.

He said initial investigations revealed that although the beauty centre was a legally registered business, it was not endorsed by the relevant authorities to perform liposuction procedures.

Saiful said the staff purportedly went ahead with the treatment after being persuaded by the victim.

He said the case in being investigated for causing death by negligence under Section 304 (a) of the Penal Code.

Investigators are waiting for a post-mortem and toxicology report to ascertain what had caused the woman’s death.

CHANDIGARH: A 22-year-old married woman who was misdiagnosed with HIV positive by a private clinic died on Tuesday night after she slipped into a coma in Shimla. Himachal CM Jai Ram Thakur has ordered a probe into the incident.

Fresh tests conducted at a government hospital had shown that she did not have HIV. 

The issue was raised in the state assembly by Rohru Congress MLA Mohan Lal Brakta to which Thakur said that the director of the health services would be asked to look into the incident and submit a report within a fortnight.

He said that the woman died at Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital (IGMC) in Shimla due to severe mental and emotional shock after she came to know about the HIV positive report. The woman had gone to the private clinic for a check-up due to an ailment. The clinic conducted some tests and gave her the results without apprising her about its contents. 

She later went to Kamla Nehru Hospital (KNH) in Shimla for treatment where her husband was told about the report prepared by the private clinic. She was then asked to undergo fresh tests. When the woman came to know that she has been diagnosed ‘HIV positive’ by the private clinic she went into a coma. She was then shifted to IGMC where she passed away. 

The report of the freshly conducted tests at the government hospital had stated that she was not HIV positive.

The MLA demanded strict action against the private clinic situated in the Rohru subdivision in Shimla district and also sought adequate compensation for the 22-year-old woman’s family.

The Chief Minister stated that the matter is very sensitive and after the probe report is received, strict action will be taken against the private clinic for preparing a wrong report. Also, compensation to the deceased woman’s family will be provided as per rules

MANILA, Philippines — A 43-year-old businesswoman died after going through liposuction in a clinic in Makati, police said on Wednesday.

A report from the Makati Central Police Station (MCPS) identified the woman as Nory Bobadilla of Binalbagan in Negros Occidental.

Bobadilla flew in from Negros Occidental last week to get her liposuction on July 3 at Contours Advanced Face and Body Sculpting in South Park Plaza, Paseo de Magallanes.

She stopped breathing during the procedure.

The attending doctors — Claudine Roura and Katrina Bulseca, an anesthesiologist — tried to revive the patient who was then rushed to the Parañaque Doctors Hospital.

Bobadilla went into a coma at the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit and was pronounced dead on July 6.

Maj. Gideon Ines, director of the MCPS Crimes Against Person Section, said an investigation into the incident had started with Bobadilla’s relatives filing a complaint against the doctors.

The police will also file a case of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide against the doctors.

INQUIRER.net sent a request for comment to the legal counsel of the clinic and is still waiting for a reply as of this writing.

A New York man died while undergoing liposuction at a clinic in the Dominican Republic on Monday. 

Manuel Núñez, 29, a restaurant worker living in New York City, traveled back to his native land for his third liposuction. 

His mother Teresa de Jesús Batista Ramírez  told Dominican outlet CDN: ‘[I told him] “Do not do that lipo, you’ve already done two. Don’t you have anything else better to do with your money,” and he told me, “mom, I have my doctor.” 

‘I told him give it to me better so that I can eat with it and what he did was that he stuck his tongue out and told me goodbye.’ 

Núñez showed up early for his scheduled 9am appointment at Caribbean Plastic Surgery in Santo Domingo with Dr. Oscar Polanco, who since 2015 has had three other patients die while undergoing surgery with him.

Family members, including his mother, were informed by the staff approximately at 6pm local time that Núñez was still unconscious, according to Telemundo 47.

The physicians tried to ease the family’s worries by telling them that it was ‘normal’.

Batista Ramírez knew her son was in danger when his skin turned yellow.

Hospital director Dr. Martha Vargas said in a statement that Núñez suffered respiratory problems after ‘the patient underwent body liposculpture plus fat transfer to the gluteal region’ and that the staff ‘immediately proceeded to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation.’

The family is left looking from answers from a doctor who had two women die within a one-week period in 2015 at a separate practice that he once ran and has since been shut down by authorities.

Polanco was charged with involuntary manslaughter for the deaths of Ely Peña, 24, and Sara de los Ángeles Martínez Rodríguez, 39. 

However, the case was dismissed because there was not sufficient evidence. But he was ordered to pay the families $2million Dominican pesos or $450,000 USD.

The doctor, who had been denounced by the Dominican Society of Plastic Surgery for falsely operating as a surgeon, was accused in 2016 in the death of Ramona Franco Cruz, 24, during another plastic surgery. 

The Public Health Ministry is investigating Núñez’s death. No arrests have been announced.
