As with anything in life, plastic surgery patients are thrilled when a procedure offers the best results without the hassle. But, when getting a major surgery like a tummy tuck (it’s also known as an abdominoplasty), this kind of convenience can be a lot to ask for. Fortunately, there’s a modernized player to the tummy tuck game that is able to give us the ease we’ve admittedly been so eagerly waiting for. 

The drainless tummy tuck, which Concord, CA plastic surgeon Eric Mariotti, MD says “lessens the amount of maintenance patients have to do post-procedure,” is a driving force in his recent uptick in patients: “People really want to know if the results are just as good as they would be with drains, and they’re happy to learn that they really are.”

A drainless tummy tuck is, essentially, exactly what it sounds like: a tummy tuck performed in a way where patients don’t have to deal with the hassle of fluid drains post-operation. The biggest benefit of this improved operation? The recovery process is much easier.

Less seromas
A seroma is a collection of fluids that build up under the skin and cause discomfort after surgery and is highly common after a normal tummy tuck. “In a normal tummy tuck, you need drains to take the fluid of your body so that liquid doesn’t collect in a space and cause a seroma,” says Dr. Mariotti. Once the drains come out, however, is when the fluid may begin to collect. 

“In a no-drain technique, we use sutures on the backside of the skin to physically sew the skin down to the muscle, obliterating or closing off that space so there is no room for fluid,” says Dr. Mariotti, adding that his rate of seromas has decreased since he stopped using drains. 

Better scars
“With a traditional drain technique, the exit sites of the drain have to heal. The drains are either going to be placed below the scars, so you’ll have a little scar where the drain came out of the skin, or through the scars, which may or may not make the scar worse at that spot,” explains Dr. Mariotti. 

Although the drainless technique still leaves a scar, Dr. Mariotti says he has noticed the scars generally have healed nicer than that of a normal tummy tuck. “Since this technique involves sutures on the underside of the skin—a technique called progressive tension—there is much more tension taken off of the scar, which makes them look much thinner and better-looking than they did when I used to do the drain technique.”

A more manageable recovery
Dr. Mariotti explains that the main results are roughly the same with and without drains, but the postoperative period is often easier with the drainless technique.

He notes that the psychology of not having drains in can have a significant impact on a patient’s recovery, as well. “If you look down and you don’t have bloody fluid collecting, a tummy tuck seems like a much smaller procedure,” says Dr. Mariotti. “When it feels like a smaller procedure, you tend to feel like you can get up and move around more, so there’s some psychology of having no drains—patients just tend to get moving quicker without them even though the drains should have no impact on (easy) movement whatsoever.” 

“I tell my patients the recovery from a drainless tummy tuck can be faster for a number of reasons. One is they don’t have drains hanging out that they have to empty and take care of all the time. The second reason, which is just as important, is that without the drains patients ofter feel like they can get up and move around more, and sooner, which speeds up the recovery.”

Although normal tummy tucks are just as effective, be sure to ask your provider if a drainless tummy tuck could be a better option for you.

As always, Wendy Williams is keeping it real when it comes to her cosmetic procedures.

On Wednesday’s episode of her Fox talk show, the 55-year-old star went as far as showing close-up, graphic footage of her most recent procedure — Botox injections in her jawline — much to the surprise of audience members.

“This morning I got here at 6:30 for a little breakfast procedure,” she said at the start of the segment. “Roll the tape!”

The talk show host said the result of the backstage operation was a sharpened jawline and “a little cheekbone from the back.” She walked onstage to tape her live show just a few hours later.

“I feel like I’m 35,” she said of the quick nip and tuck.

“Look, my doctor is in the building right now and I’ve been dealing with her for more years than this show was invented,” the notoriously candid star said, advising her audience: “If you see something, do something. Don’t just assume that your skin don’t crack.”

“My doctor [Dr. Marion Shapiro] is the bee’s knees. I know you look at the TV, you’re like, ‘Okay what the hell is Wendy doing? She talks about the tummy tuck.’ But that’s not Marion,” Williams explained. That’s years ago.”

The talk show host then revealed that she won’t be getting any more plastic surgery from the neck down. Aside from a breast reduction, which she says she’ll get when she’s ready — “but right now, I still like them.”

Williams continued, “I’ve never gotten a face lift. And you know what, if you start staving off at an early time, you won’t need a face lift!”

“I go to good old Marian like once every three months and I say, ‘Look i’ve been staring in the magnifying thing.’ And then she stares right back,” she said. “She’s smart. She’s stylish. She’s very very easy on the eyes…And I don’t mind sharing with you.”

The star admitted the facial procedures she gets aren’t cheap, but told the audience: “Well neither was your Gucci bag so why don’t you just lay off the bags and the boots and stuff and spend on yourself,” she told the audience.

Towards the end of Wednesday’s episode, Williams brought Shapiro onstage to perform some of her most innovative procedures and treatments (including endymed skin tightening, an infinity thread lift and a three-day body glow) on a few volunteers in front of the live audience.

“For over a decade, you’ve never done me wrong,” Williams told Shapiro.

Williams has long been candid about her cosmetic and plastic surgeries, telling fans and viewers that she got liposuction and a tummy tuck and breast implants more than two decades ago.

In 2015, she said on her show that she lost 50 pounds in three years. 

“I no longer believe in fad diets, crash diets. I don’t believe in diet pills,” the host said. “I don’t want my heart to race and pop out of my chest. Yes, I did have a jump-start because years ago I did get the liposuction and a tummy tuck, but I have to say that, if there is a poster child for plastic surgery and the jump-off to a new lifestyle, it would be me.”

“Of all the crazy diets I’ve been on, none have ever been as effective as [saying to myself], ‘Just push back, fatso. Just stop eating so much,’ ” she shared, adding, “And I don’t love food as much as I used to.”

“Slow and steady is the name of the game,” she advised her viewers. “It’s not going to happen overnight.”

But one procedure really stands out from the rest and that’s Darcey Silva’s incredible ‘Mommy Makeover’. Darcey’s had several other procedures in her past, but this transformation she got in Spring of 2019 takes the cake. 

She actually underwent the procedure alongside her identical twin sister, Stacy, and the two look absolutely gorgeous. They both got the same tummy-tuck, lip fillers, and even the same hairstyle. It was truly a transformation the top Chicago plastic surgeon Ramzen Azizi would be impressed with. 

A ‘twin transformation’ to remember

A woman has opened up about the horrifying moment she was left on the brink of death after having a botched tummy tuck and boob job abroad.

Lyndsay Colosimo, 38, forked out $10,000 for the plastic surgery in Colombia in May in a bid to “feel confident” for her 40th birthday.

But days later, the flesh around Colosimo’s wound and her nipples began rotting, and her skin turned black.

The insurance underwriter was rushed to the hospital, where she was forced to have multiple operations to save her life and rectify her botched surgery.

Colosimo, from Florida, is now warning others about the dangers of having cosmetic surgery abroad following her harrowing ordeal.

“I regret it so much. I went there to feel confident and now I feel embarrassed,” she said.

Colosimo first decided to have the surgery in Colombia after two of her friends went to the same clinic and claimed their results were “amazing.”

“I had a tummy tuck in the US in 2012 and I wasn’t happy with it and wanted it revised with a bum lift,” Colosimo said.

“When I got to the clinic, I was advised on a breast reduction and lift too — something I have always wanted but it wasn’t my priority.

“I decided to have both but I did worry as I felt as though it was too much surgery at once, but you trust the professionals.”

Colosimo was in surgery for five and a half hours before she woke up and everything spiraled out of control.

“When I woke up, I didn’t feel right and a doctor was nowhere to be seen. My legs felt numb and I began vomiting uncontrollably. It was the worst pain of my life,” she described.

“It continued for a few days and I could see a black spot under my bandage, but I was told it was dried blood and not to worry by medics. I knew in my heart it wasn’t as I was getting worse by the day. Eventually, I saw what was under the bandage and 30 percent of my nipple was black.”

Colosimo claims she was diagnosed with necrosis — dead cells in an organ or tissue due to disease, injury, or failure of the blood supply — and that her nipple and milk duct was surgically removed three weeks after the initial surgery.

She was scheduled to stay in Colombia for 20 days but went on to stay for a further 12 as she claims there were further complications.

“I had open wounds on my breasts as the implant pocket wasn’t big enough — it is like the incision was made for a C-cup and DD was shoved in,” she said.

“My skin started breaking open, it was terrifying to see. I had a fever and continued to show signs of infections and was encouraged to walk around whereas usually people are told to rest after surgery.

“My stomach began to fill with fluid and puss would seep out of my belly button and massage therapists were sent to my hotel room with razor blades to cut open the incisions and massage the fluids out.

“This is unsanitary and hotel rooms are not sterile environments. Massage oil is also not good near open wounds — I ignored all the red flags as I was desperate for it to make me feel better.

“Unfortunately, I am more educated after the events rather than before. I researched the clinic and seen amazing results with my own eyes, but I didn’t see any of the bad.”

On her return to the US, Colosimo was taken straight to the hospital and claims doctors found an E. coli infection in her breast and told her revision surgery was needed on her stomach.

Following this, she required a wound vac weekly and a doctor to change her bandages daily.

She was finally discharged from their care on November 20.

Colosimo now claims she has a $40,000 medical bill. The initial surgery would have cost $35,000 at a US plastic surgery clinic.

“I went straight to the emergency department and had two more surgeries to install three drains to flush out the infections in my stomach. This infection almost cost me my life — I developed cellulitis and I am still in constant pain at the incision point,” she adds.

“I was seeking perfection but now I look back and realize I was good enough. Before surgery, I wouldn’t wear a bikini and now I won’t even wear a dress or leave my house. I thought I would feel liberated after, but I feel ashamed. I shared my story on social media to prevent other women going through the torture I have been through.”

Jennifer Aydin took HollywoodLife inside her weight loss journey and plastic surgery transformation in a brand new interview on Sunday, November 24 — just two days after undergoing a tummy tuck on the 22nd. The Real Housewives of New Jersey star, 42, said the procedure, which was performed by her husband, Dr. Bill Aydin, 41, was a complete success. And, she’s already up and walking around just days later.

“Getting a tummy tuck was something that I’d been contemplating ever since I had my fifth child, Olivia,” Jennifer admitted during our exclusive interview. However, she held off on getting the surgery because of how “brutal” she heard the recovery process would be. “I had to make sure I waited until a time when all my kids were pretty much self-sufficient and did not need mommy to carry them anymore,” she admitted.

Jennifer went on to explain that choosing to get a tummy tuck helped with her weight loss. “Being the wife of a plastic surgeon, I know that the way to have the best result [with a tummy tuck] is when you’re able to lose the most amount of fat,” she revealed. “And, I was thick for a while after Olivia, so it wasn’t something that was on my radar. I still never considered it until I felt I was thin enough. But, once I lost all the weight, all of the stretching my skin did with Olivia (known as diastases) became an inconvenience and very physically apparent in my clothing,” Jennifer said, which motivated her to go through with the tummy tuck.

So far, because she dropped weight to prepare for the surgery, Jen has lost a total of 25 pounds. And, she’s happy with her recovery so far, although it takes a lot of focus and patience.

“The recovery process for a tummy tuck is definitely a commitment. You have to make sure that you don’t have anything on your plate for the next couple weeks,” she admitted, explaining that every patient is different. “I’m definitely hunched over, but I’m walking around more than I thought I would. It’s not as bad as I had anticipated.”

Despite loving her results thus far, Jen most likely won’t go under the knife again.

“As of now, I do not want any more plastic surgery,” she said before clearing up other false rumors about her cosmetic history. “And just to point out, all the plastic surgery I’ve ever had has only been on my body. Aside from some Botox and fillers, the face remains the same. I’ve had some people accuse me of getting a nose job, which sometimes I am grateful for, but it is not the case,” she explained. “But, I promise you that if I ever decide to get a nose job, it’s no surprise that I will probably let the whole world know.”

When asked if she plans to lose more weight, Jennifer said, “I don’t think I’ll go down in size that much.” Why? — “I did not have any liposuction done this time. My husband told me there was no fat left, it was only just excess skin. The only difference is before, the diastases I had in my lower belly made it look like I had this forever pouch. That will now be gone” because of the tummy tuck, she said. “But I really won’t know my size until I’m done healing in six months to a year. I do, however, think my butt is going to look much bigger since my waist will be so small.”

At the end of the day, Jennifer admitted that she’s got no one to impress but her husband, who is her biggest supporter when it comes to her plastic surgery. “He thought after my weight loss that I was the perfect candidate for a tummy tuck. So, he was excited to do it, and he’s done hundreds with fantastic results,” she gushed.
