In essence, it translates to &#8220;a device for measuring a rare (or thin) pulse.&#8221; Its primary function is to provide two key values: systolic pressure (the pressure in arteries when the heart beats) and diastolic pressure (the pressure when the heart rests between beats). These readings are expressed in millimeters of mercury (mmHg).
