Some people choose to skip the first meal while others follow the old adage \u2018Breakfast like a King.\u2019 However, there\u2019s one thing you should avoid doing in the morning, a dietician has said.<\/p>\n<p>Weight-loss attempts could be derailed if you eat breakfast when you\u2019re not actually ready for it.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re not that hungry when you wake up, you don\u2019t need to tuck into a meal straight away.<\/p>\n<p>Julieanna Hever, a plant-based dietitian and author of The Vegiterranean Diet and The Complete Idiot\u2019s Guide to Plant-Based Nutrition, told nutrition and health website Eat This that it\u2019s key to listen to your body.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTry tuning into your natural hunger\/satiety signals and have breakfast only once you are truly physically hungry.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYour body knows best about how much and when you need to eat,\u201d Hever told the publication.<\/p>\n<p>Munching while watching TV is inadvisable as it could scupper your weight loss efforts.<\/p>\n<p>Eating without distraction is best, The Nutrition Twins, Lyssie Lakatos and Tammy Lakatos Shames, authors of The Nutrition Twins\u2019 Veggie Cure, also told Eat This.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBeing focused on the TV takes away the mindfulness of eating and the appreciation of the flavours and textures of the foods you\u2019re putting in your mouth, as well as the size of the portions that you\u2019re eating,\u201d they said.<\/p>\n<p>It could be the foods you eat for breakfast that will make the biggest difference when it comes to your diet.<\/p>\n<p>Some popular breakfast items can be misleading for Britons looking to shape up and it\u2019s important to be aware of the real nutritional value of what you\u2019re eating.<\/p>\n<p>One such food that Britons on a\u00a0weight loss diet\u00a0should steer clear of is a breakfast of low-fat yoghurt and fruit.<\/p>\n<p>This could come as a surprise as it would seem to be a very healthy meal indeed.<\/p>\n<p>However, experts have said that a breakfast of low fat and yoghurt and fruit will not satiate &#8211; which means you are likelier to snack later or eat more.<\/p>\n<p>Adam Kelinson, a professional chef, endurance athlete, and author of The Athlete\u2019s Plate, told Men\u2019s Health: \u201cOn the surface, it seems like this is a good way to start the day, and it\u2019s definitely better than a lot of other options.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The problem, though, is that the breakfast is crammed with simple sugars which the human body will quickly burn through. What\u2019s more, the lack of fat in the low-fat yoghurt will leave you feeling hungry.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s much better to ensure you\u2019re getting plenty of protein in your breakfast. For instance, a protein-filled Greek yoghurt would be a much better option.<\/p>\n<p>Consider teaming it with a serving of whole-grain cereal or granola.
