{"id":4734,"date":"2020-02-19T12:00:43","date_gmt":"2020-02-19T12:00:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mymedicplus.com\/news\/?p=4734"},"modified":"2021-03-31T00:53:32","modified_gmt":"2021-03-30T19:23:32","slug":"study-lack-of-sleep-can-lead-to-more-unhealthy-food-cravings","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.mymedicplus.com\/blog\/study-lack-of-sleep-can-lead-to-more-unhealthy-food-cravings\/","title":{"rendered":"Study: Lack of sleep can lead to more unhealthy food cravings"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Source: fox19.com<\/p>\n<div class=\"card collection-item \" data-type=\"text\">\n<div class=\"card-content card-article\">\n<p>According to research published in the Journal of the American Heart Association, people who aren&#8217;t getting good sleep tend to eat too much sugar and other unhealthy foods.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"card collection-item \" data-type=\"text\">\n<div class=\"card-content card-article\">\n<p>The study looked at nearly 500 women between the ages of 20 and 76 who self-reported their sleep and eating habits for a year.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"card collection-item \" data-type=\"text\">\n<div class=\"card-content card-article\">\n<p>The study found over a third of the women had poor sleep or some level of insomnia.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"card collection-item \" data-type=\"text\">\n<div class=\"card-content card-article\">\n<p>Those women reported eating an additional 500 to 800 calories per day on average, and they ate more than the recommended amounts of saturated fats, added sugars and caffeine.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"card collection-item \" data-type=\"text\">\n<div class=\"card-content card-article\">\n<p>They also fell below the recommended intake of whole grains and fiber.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"card collection-item \" data-type=\"text\">\n<div class=\"card-content card-article\">\n<p>The study suggests one reason for the connection between sleep and eating is that when we are sleep deprived, our hormones stimulate hunger.<\/p>\n<div class=\"card collection-item \" data-type=\"text\">\n<div class=\"card-content card-article\">\n<p>Insomnia can also trigger the parts of your brain that make it harder for you to control cravings and rash decisions.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"card collection-item \" data-type=\"text\">\n<div class=\"card-content card-article\">\n<p>So be sure to make sleep a priority.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"card collection-item \" data-type=\"text\">\n<div class=\"card-content card-article\">\n<p>Turn your gadgets off at least 20 minutes before bedtime.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"card collection-item \" data-type=\"text\">\n<div class=\"card-content card-article\">\n<p>Make sure your room is dark and cool.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: inherit;\">And don&#8217;t eat large amounts of food before bed, making your gut uncomfortable.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":4735,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[1],"tags":[171,2057],"class_list":["post-4734","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-uncategorized","tag-sleep","tag-unhealthy-food"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.5 -
