History:

As a former rector of the University of Antwerp (UIA) said Laurent Vandendriessche into the history of the UZA. More than 25 years later he thought with pleasure that special time back. I was there from the beginning convinced that the hospital would be a great success."
Who goes back to the early history of the UZA ends in 1965. That was the year that the RUCA and the Faculty of Medicine were established. In the beginning there were only offered applications and was of a university hospital in Antwerp yet achieved. But that changed when in 1971 the UIA was formed. The new university was given a relatively complex administrative. Besides Rector and President Laurent Vandendriessche Fernand Nédée were also a vice-rector, Jos Couturier, and a vice-president, Camille Paul.
"The complex structure was not for nothing," chuckles Vandendriessche. Each of us represented a different political column. So that was simply not in the 70s, all major parties have had their say. Everyone predicted that with these different backgrounds within three months sounding argument would have. But funnily enough we could get along perfectly. When we debated differences until we reached a common position. Eventually we even have all become good friends, to journey together. "
