Tinnitus is the perception of sound in the absence of an external acoustic stimulus — commonly described as ringing, buzzing, hissing, whooshing, clicking, or pulsing sounds in one or both ears. Suicide risk is elevated in those with severe, intractable tinnitus — particularly in the absence of adequate psychological and audiological support. Prevention & Hearing Protection
Noise-induced hearing loss and associated tinnitus are largely preventable.
