Understanding Your Blood Pressure

Blood pressure is measured in millimetres of mercury (mmHg) and recorded as two numbers:

  • Systolic pressure (top number) — the pressure when your heart beats and pushes blood out.
  • Diastolic pressure (bottom number) — the pressure when your heart rests between beats.
