Dr. Blerina Hoxha

Dr. Blerina Hoxha is a medical oncologist at the University Hospital Centre Mother Teresa (QSUT) in Tirana, Albania's primary academic hospital. With 14 years of clinical experience in medical oncology, she has become a recognized specialist in breast and gynecological cancer care in Albania.

She completed advanced oncology training at the Istituto Europeo di Oncologia (IEO) in Milan, Italy — one of Europe's premier cancer centers. Her Italian training gave her extensive exposure to European oncology protocols, multidisciplinary tumor board practice, and the latest targeted therapies for breast and gynecological cancers.

Dr. Hoxha returned to Albania where she has worked to implement multidisciplinary oncology approaches at QSUT, advocating for molecular profiling and targeted therapy for eligible patients. She is an ESMO member and participates in Balkan oncology education networks.

She is deeply committed to breast cancer awareness in Albania, participating in public health campaigns to improve early detection rates and treatment-seeking behavior.

Dr. Hoxha received her MD from the University of Medicine Tirana in 2007. She completed her internal medicine and oncology residency at QSUT and undertook advanced oncology training at the Istituto Europeo di Oncologia (IEO), Milan, Italy (2012–2013). She obtained her MSc in Oncology from the University of Medicine Tirana in 2015 focused on neoadjuvant therapy outcomes in Albanian breast cancer patients. She is an ESMO member and is certified by the Albanian Medical Association in oncology.

Dr. Hoxha's primary clinical focus is breast and gynecological oncology. She designs and administers neoadjuvant and adjuvant chemotherapy protocols, HER2-targeted therapy where available, and hormone therapy. She also treats cervical, ovarian, colorectal, and lung cancer patients. She participates in multidisciplinary tumor board reviews and advocates for molecular profiling to guide treatment decisions. She is experienced in managing chemotherapy toxicities and in palliative oncology care.

Dr. Hoxha has published over 8 peer-reviewed articles in Albanian and Italian oncology journals. Her research focuses on breast cancer epidemiology in Albania, neoadjuvant chemotherapy outcomes, and the implementation of evidence-based oncology in limited-resource settings. She collaborates with oncologists in Italy and participates in Balkan oncology research networks.

Dr. Hoxha speaks Albanian, Italian, and English and provides oncology consultations for diaspora patients and international patients. QSUT coordinates care for international patients. Video consultations are available for second opinions. She assists diaspora patients in obtaining oncology treatment in Albania and in facilitating referrals to Italian centers when more advanced treatment is needed.

Dr. Hoxha received the Albanian Society of Oncology Young Clinician Award in 2016. She was recognized by QSUT for her leadership in establishing multidisciplinary breast cancer tumor board meetings. She has received ESMO recognition for her engagement in Balkan oncology education initiatives.
