Dr. Youcef Mansouri

Dr. Youcef Mansouri is a senior general surgeon at CHU Mustapha Pacha, Algiers, one of Algeria's busiest and most storied university hospitals. Over a 19-year career, he has built a broad surgical practice encompassing both emergency and elective general surgery, with particular expertise in minimally invasive laparoscopic techniques and colorectal surgery.

Dr. Mansouri trained at the Université d'Alger and completed his surgical residency at CHU Mustapha Pacha, where he has remained as a consultant and clinical teacher. His training in France during a collaborative surgical exchange program gave him early exposure to laparoscopic techniques at a time when these were being adopted into Algerian surgical practice, and he has since championed the expansion of minimally invasive surgery within the department.

Beyond his operating theater work, Dr. Mansouri is committed to surgical education, supervising residents and fellows and contributing to the surgical curriculum at the Faculty of Medicine. In elective surgery, his highest-volume procedures include laparoscopic cholecystectomy for gallstone disease, laparoscopic and open hernia repair for inguinal, umbilical, and incisional hernias, and laparoscopic colorectal resections for cancer and diverticular disease.

In emergency surgery, he manages acute appendicitis, bowel obstruction, peptic ulcer perforation, and acute abdominal presentations requiring urgent intervention. He also performs thyroidectomy for thyroid nodules, toxic goiter, and thyroid malignancy, and conducts upper gastrointestinal endoscopy as part of his diagnostic workup. His goal is to offer a laparoscopic approach wherever clinically appropriate, reducing recovery times and hospital stay for patients.

Dr. Mansouri has been involved in research examining outcomes of laparoscopic cholecystectomy in the Algerian public hospital context, as well as studies on the management of complicated appendicitis. He has co-authored articles in French-language surgical journals on colorectal cancer surgical outcomes in Algeria and has contributed data to regional cancer registries. His interest in improving surgical quality metrics has led him to lead internal audit programs at CHU Mustapha Pacha's surgical department.

Dr. Mansouri consults in Arabic, French, and English. Patients from the Algerian diaspora in France, Canada, and other countries occasionally return to Algeria for elective surgical procedures, benefiting from shorter waiting times and established family support networks.
