Dr. Nare Petrosyan

Dr. Nare Petrosyan is a pulmonologist at Muratsan University Hospital in Yerevan — one of Armenia's principal academic medical centers affiliated with Yerevan State Medical University. With 14 years of respiratory medicine experience, she is one of Yerevan's established pulmonologists, managing a broad range of acute and chronic lung conditions in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

Armenia carries a significant burden of respiratory disease driven by high smoking rates in the male population, air pollution in Yerevan, and a historical legacy of pulmonary tuberculosis that shapes contemporary respiratory medicine practice. Dr. Petrosyan works at the intersection of these challenges — managing COPD, asthma, post-TB sequelae, and interstitial lung diseases as well as community-acquired and hospital-acquired pneumonia.

She completed her PhD at Yerevan State Medical University focusing on spirometric outcomes in Armenian COPD patients and has been an active member of the European Respiratory Society, enabling her to align clinical practice with European evidence-based guidelines. She is known for her patient-accessible approach and her commitment to respiratory health education in the Armenian population.

Dr. Petrosyan obtained her MD from Yerevan State Medical University after Mkhitar Heratsi — Armenia's leading medical university, founded in 1920. She completed her pulmonology residency at Muratsan University Hospital's Department of Pulmonology and Internal Medicine and subsequently earned a PhD in Pulmonary Medicine with research focused on the spirometric characterization of COPD in Armenian smokers and the impact of air pollution exposure on lung function.

She undertook a clinical observership at a European respiratory center through an ERS fellowship program, gaining experience in modern bronchoscopic techniques and interstitial lung disease management. She is a member of the European Respiratory Society and participates in its Eastern European educational initiatives.

Dr. Petrosyan's pulmonology practice encompasses diagnostic and therapeutic management of the full spectrum of respiratory diseases. She performs and interprets spirometry and comprehensive pulmonary function testing for the diagnosis of obstructive and restrictive ventilatory patterns. She is competent in diagnostic and therapeutic bronchoscopy, bronchoalveolar lavage, and endobronchial biopsy.

In COPD management, she applies GOLD-strategy guidelines for pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatment including inhaled bronchodilators, inhaled corticosteroids, and pulmonary rehabilitation referral. She manages asthma across severity grades including severe refractory asthma. She has particular expertise in the diagnosis and follow-up of interstitial lung diseases including idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis and sarcoidosis. She manages pulmonary complications of tuberculosis and coordinates with TB specialists for active disease. Sleep-disordered breathing assessment and CPAP therapy initiation are also within her scope of practice.

Dr. Petrosyan consults in Armenian, Russian, and English and is experienced in reviewing medical records from Russian-speaking and English-speaking healthcare systems.
