Dr. Narine Petrosyan

Dr. Narine Petrosyan is a consultant medical oncologist at the National Oncology Center of Armenia — the country's principal cancer institution in Yerevan. With 18 years of oncology practice, Dr. Petrosyan is one of Armenia's most experienced medical oncologists, managing the spectrum of common solid tumors including breast cancer, colorectal cancer, and lung cancer, and working to bring ESMO-standard systemic therapy to Armenian cancer patients.

Armenia has made progress in developing oncology services, though resource constraints limit access to some targeted therapies and clinical trial opportunities available in Western Europe. Dr. Petrosyan advocates for her patients' access to novel therapies and works with international oncology networks and diaspora physician organizations to stay current with rapidly evolving cancer medicine.

Her breast oncology practice applies hormone receptor, HER2, and Ki-67 molecular markers to treatment decisions, prescribing anthracycline and taxane-based chemotherapy, trastuzumab, CDK4/6 inhibitors where available, and aromatase inhibitors for hormone receptor-positive disease. She coordinates with surgical and radiation oncology colleagues through the National Oncology Center's multidisciplinary tumor board.

Dr. Petrosyan trained in Germany and holds the ESMO certification. She communicates in Armenian, Russian, and English — essential for serving both Armenian nationals and diaspora patients who return to Yerevan for cancer care.

Dr. Petrosyan obtained her MD from Yerevan State Medical University and completed her Oncology residency at the National Oncology Center of Armenia — the country's principal cancer institution. She undertook a Medical Oncology Fellowship at the University Hospital Heidelberg in Germany — one of Europe's most prominent comprehensive cancer centres, with world-class breast and gastrointestinal oncology programmes — gaining direct exposure to European-standard multidisciplinary cancer care.

She holds a PhD in Oncology from Yerevan State Medical University, reflecting a substantial contribution to cancer research in the Armenian context. She holds the ESMO certification, the European Society for Medical Oncology's mark of clinical competency and commitment to evidence-based oncology practice. She maintains active ESMO membership, participates in ESMO East program activities, and engages with annual ESMO congress updates to stay current with rapidly evolving cancer medicine.

Dr. Petrosyan's oncology practice covers solid tumors and lymphoma. In breast cancer, she designs neoadjuvant and adjuvant chemotherapy regimens (AC-T, FEC-D, TCH), prescribes trastuzumab for HER2-positive disease, CDK4/6 inhibitors for hormone receptor-positive metastatic breast cancer, and PARP inhibitors for BRCA-mutated disease where available. For colorectal cancer, she manages FOLFOX and FOLFIRI regimens with bevacizumab and EGFR antibodies for appropriate RAS wild-type patients. She manages lung cancer with platinum-based doublets and targeted agents where molecular testing supports it. She performs bone marrow biopsies for lymphoma staging and manages CHOP/R-CHOP regimens for lymphoma.

Dr. Petrosyan has published in the Yerevan State Medical University scientific bulletin and the Armenian Journal of Oncology on breast and colorectal cancer outcomes in Armenia, cancer epidemiology, and access to targeted therapies. She participates in the Armenian Society of Clinical Oncology and ESMO East network. She presents at the National Oncology Center annual conference and ESMO regional meetings.

The National Oncology Center of Armenia serves the domestic Armenian population and diaspora Armenians who return to Yerevan for cancer treatment or seek second opinions from Armenian oncologists. Dr. Petrosyan consults in Armenian, Russian, and English — making her accessible to the large Armenian diaspora in the United States, France, Russia, Lebanon, and beyond.

Video consultations are available for oncology second opinions, treatment plan review, and case discussion for diaspora Armenians and other international patients. She can review pathology reports, molecular testing results, and imaging to provide independent oncological assessment. Armenia's cancer treatment costs are substantially lower than equivalent care in France, Germany, or the United States — and diaspora patients who wish to undergo chemotherapy or hormonal therapy at the National Oncology Center of Armenia under Dr. Petrosyan's care can do so at a significant cost advantage while receiving ESMO-aligned cancer treatment.

Dr. Petrosyan has been recognized by the Armenian Society of Clinical Oncology for her outstanding contributions to breast cancer care in Armenia and her sustained advocacy for improved access to targeted oncology therapies — including her work to expand CDK4/6 inhibitor and trastuzumab availability for Armenian cancer patients who would otherwise not have access.

She serves on the National Oncology Center's clinical guidelines committee — helping to establish evidence-based cancer treatment protocols for the Armenian healthcare system — and on the Armenian Ministry of Health oncology advisory panel. She is an ESMO member and contributes to ESMO East network activities, connecting Armenia to the European cancer medicine community. She mentors junior oncology fellows at the National Oncology Center, shaping the next generation of Armenian medical oncologists.
