Prof. Kurt Huber

Prof. Kurt Huber is a distinguished cardiologist and Head of the 3rd Medical Department (Cardiology and Intensive Care Medicine) at Klinik Ottakring, formerly Wilhelminenspital, Vienna — one of Vienna's major acute care hospitals. With more than 30 years of clinical and research experience, he is internationally recognised for his expertise in acute coronary syndromes (ACS), antithrombotic pharmacology, and primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PPCI). Prof. Huber has shaped European and international guidelines on the management of heart attacks and thrombotic emergencies. He combines high-volume procedural expertise with a strong academic commitment, having trained generations of cardiologists and contributed pivotal clinical trial evidence to global ACS treatment standards. His patient philosophy emphasises rapid, decisive intervention to salvage heart muscle and optimise long-term outcomes.

Prof. Huber obtained his medical degree (MD) from the University of Vienna, completing his specialist cardiology training at major Austrian academic centres. He pursued advanced training in interventional cardiology and acute cardiac care, developing particular expertise in antithrombotic therapy and primary coronary intervention for STEMI. He holds dual international Fellowship — FESC (Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology) and FACC (Fellow of the American College of Cardiology) — recognising his standing within both European and North American cardiovascular medicine communities. He has participated in advanced training programmes and visiting fellowships at leading European cardiac centres.

Prof. Huber's primary clinical expertise is the emergency management of acute myocardial infarction and acute coronary syndromes. He leads the PPCI programme at Klinik Ottakring, treating patients with STEMI requiring emergency coronary intervention. His research expertise in antithrombotic drugs — antiplatelet agents, anticoagulants, and fibrinolytics — directly informs his clinical decision-making. He also manages complex coronary artery disease, cardiogenic shock, and venous thromboembolic disorders. His department operates a 24/7 cardiac catheterisation laboratory for emergency interventions, providing state-of-the-art acute cardiac care to Vienna's population.

Klinik Ottakring in Vienna is a major urban tertiary hospital with established capability to receive and treat international patients presenting with cardiac emergencies or for elective cardiac assessment. Prof. Huber consults in German and English. Vienna is a major international transit hub, and the hospital is well connected by public transport.
