Dr. Elchin Mammadov

Dr. Elchin Mammadov is a consultant cardiologist at AZMED Medical Center in Baku — one of Azerbaijan's leading private healthcare institutions and a key component of Baku's growing medical tourism infrastructure. Azerbaijan has been investing significantly in healthcare development, and Baku's private medical sector offers an increasingly competitive range of specialist services to both Azerbaijani nationals and medical tourists from neighboring countries and the broader post-Soviet space.

With 18 years of cardiology practice, Dr. Mammadov manages the significant cardiovascular disease burden of Azerbaijan's population, which — like other South Caucasus countries — has high rates of hypertension, coronary artery disease, and heart failure. He performs diagnostic coronary angiography and percutaneous coronary intervention for both acute and elective indications, alongside a comprehensive non-invasive cardiology practice including advanced echocardiography.

His echocardiographic expertise includes standard and advanced transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiography, stress echocardiography for ischemia detection, and Doppler assessment of valvular and cardiac function. He is one of AZMED's most active echocardiographers, providing diagnostic assessments that inform both cardiology and cardiac surgery decision-making.

Dr. Mammadov trained in Germany and holds the FESC (Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology) designation. He communicates in Azerbaijani, Russian, and English.

Dr. Mammadov obtained his MD from Azerbaijan Medical University in Baku and completed Internal Medicine and Cardiology residency in Baku. He undertook further cardiology training in Germany at the Klinikum der Universität München, gaining experience in interventional cardiology and echocardiography. He holds a PhD in Cardiology from Azerbaijan Medical University and the FESC (Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology) designation.

Dr. Mammadov's interventional cardiology practice covers diagnostic coronary angiography via radial access and percutaneous coronary intervention for acute and chronic coronary syndromes. His echocardiography practice is particularly strong: he performs standard transthoracic echocardiography for assessment of ventricular function, valvular disease, and pericardial conditions; transesophageal echocardiography for prosthetic valve assessment, endocarditis, and aortic evaluation; stress echocardiography for ischemia detection; and 3D echocardiography for structural assessment. He manages heart failure with guideline-directed pharmacotherapy and performs 24-hour Holter monitoring and ambulatory blood pressure assessment.

Dr. Mammadov has published in the Azerbaijan Medical Journal and has contributed to ESC cardiovascular registry data from Azerbaijan. He participates in the Azerbaijan Cardiological Society educational activities and presents at the national cardiology conference. He collaborates with the ESC for Caucasus region educational initiatives.

AZMED Medical Center in Baku serves Azerbaijani nationals and medical tourists from neighboring countries including Georgia, Kazakhstan, and Russia.
