Dr. Farhad Huseynov

Dr. Farhad Huseynov is a consultant neurologist at the Central Clinical Hospital in Baku — one of Azerbaijan's principal public hospitals. With 16 years of neurology practice, Dr. Huseynov provides comprehensive neurological care to Baku's population, addressing the spectrum of neurological disease from acute stroke through chronic epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, and neurodegenerative conditions.

His stroke neurology practice operates within the Central Clinical Hospital's stroke care protocol, ensuring rapid neurological assessment, brain imaging interpretation, and IV thrombolysis administration for eligible acute ischemic stroke patients. He manages post-stroke care including secondary prevention and coordination with rehabilitation medicine colleagues.

His epilepsy practice diagnoses and manages both common and complex epilepsy syndromes, applying EEG interpretation and video-EEG monitoring for syndrome characterization and antiseizure medication selection. He manages drug-resistant epilepsy cases and coordinates evaluation for surgical candidacy.

Dr. Huseynov is also experienced in multiple sclerosis diagnosis and disease-modifying therapy — an area of growing importance as MS awareness and diagnosis increase in Azerbaijan. Dr. Huseynov obtained his MD from Azerbaijan Medical University in Baku and completed Neurology residency at the Central Clinical Hospital and Baku's main neurological institutions. He undertook advanced neurology training at the First Moscow State Medical University (Sechenov University) in Russia, with subspecialty training in stroke and epilepsy. He holds a PhD in Neurology from Azerbaijan Medical University and the FEAN (Fellow of the European Academy of Neurology) designation. He is an Associate Professor of Neurology at Azerbaijan Medical University.

Dr. Huseynov's neurology practice covers acute and chronic neurological disease. In acute stroke, he assesses eligibility for IV alteplase using validated criteria, administers thrombolysis, and manages secondary prevention with antiplatelet or anticoagulation therapy. His epilepsy practice includes EEG interpretation, video-EEG monitoring for seizure semiology characterization, and antiseizure medication management from monotherapy through polytherapy for drug-resistant cases. In MS, he diagnoses using McDonald criteria with MRI and CSF analysis and prescribes and monitors disease-modifying therapies. For Parkinson's disease, he optimizes dopaminergic pharmacotherapy and manages non-motor symptoms. He performs lumbar puncture, EMG/NCS for peripheral neuropathy evaluation, and botulinum toxin injections for dystonia and spasticity.

Dr. Huseynov has published in the Azerbaijan Medical Journal and has contributed to EAN registry data. He participates in the Azerbaijan Neurological Society educational programs and presents at the national neurology conference and EAN annual congress. He collaborates with Russian neurology centers through established academic connections.
