Dr. Fatima Al Mahrous

Dr. Fatima Al Mahrous is a consultant medical oncologist at the Bahrain Oncology Center — Bahrain's dedicated cancer treatment facility providing comprehensive oncology services to the Kingdom's population. With 16 years of medical oncology practice, Dr. Al Mahrous has become one of Bahrain's leading cancer physicians, combining evidence-based systemic therapy with a commitment to precision oncology and patient-centered care.

Her breast oncology practice is the most active component of her clinical work, reflecting breast cancer's position as the most commonly diagnosed malignancy among Bahraini women. She applies molecular profiling — including hormone receptor status, HER2 testing, and multigene assay results — to individualize treatment decisions from neoadjuvant through metastatic contexts. She is experienced with CDK4/6 inhibitors, PARP inhibitors, HER2-targeted antibody-drug conjugates, and immune checkpoint inhibitors.

In colorectal cancer, she applies RAS, BRAF, and MSI testing to guide regimen selection and manages both curative and palliative-intent treatment. She works within the Bahrain Oncology Center's multidisciplinary tumor board, integrating input from surgical, radiation, and pathology colleagues.

Dr. Al Mahrous is a strong advocate for early cancer detection and participates in Bahrain's national cancer screening programs. She communicates in Arabic and English and is experienced managing the cultural considerations around cancer disclosure and treatment decision-making in Bahraini and Gulf Arab families.

Dr. Al Mahrous obtained her MBBS from the Arabian Gulf University in Bahrain and completed Internal Medicine residency at Salmaniya Medical Complex. She undertook Medical Oncology training in the United Kingdom, completing her MRCP following training at teaching hospitals in London. She completed a Medical Oncology Fellowship at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London — one of the world's leading cancer centers. She holds ESMO certification and maintains active ASCO membership.

Dr. Al Mahrous designs and manages systemic therapy regimens across the major solid tumor types. In breast cancer, she prescribes neoadjuvant and adjuvant chemotherapy, anti-HER2 therapy (trastuzumab, pertuzumab, T-DM1, T-DXd), CDK4/6 inhibitors (palbociclib, ribociclib, abemaciclib), PARP inhibitors for BRCA-mutated disease, and immunotherapy for TNBC. In colorectal cancer, she manages FOLFOX/FOLFIRI regimens with bevacizumab or cetuximab/panitumumab based on RAS/BRAF molecular status, and pembrolizumab for MSI-high disease. She manages lung, gastric, and lymphoma cases within the multidisciplinary framework. She assesses and coordinates Port-a-Cath placement and manages chemotherapy-related toxicities.

Dr. Al Mahrous has published in the Bahrain Medical Bulletin and Gulf Journal of Oncology on breast cancer epidemiology in Bahrain and precision oncology implementation in the GCC. She participates in the Gulf Cancer League registry and the Bahrain Cancer Society research committee. She presents at the Bahrain Medical Society oncology sessions and ESMO congresses.
