Dr. Ferdousi Begum

Dr. Ferdousi Begum is a senior consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist at BIRDEM General Hospital in Dhaka — the flagship hospital of the Bangladesh Institute of Research and Rehabilitation in Diabetes, Endocrine and Metabolic Disorders. With 16 years of experience, she provides comprehensive women's health services with particular expertise in high-risk obstetrics complicated by diabetes and metabolic disorders — a growing clinical challenge given Bangladesh's high prevalence of gestational diabetes.

Dr. Ferdousi trained at Mymensingh Medical College before completing her FCPS and MCPS in Obstetrics and Gynaecology through the Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons. Her institutional affiliation with BIRDEM gives her unmatched expertise in managing pregnancies complicated by pre-existing and gestational diabetes, as well as other metabolic conditions.

Her gynecological practice covers infertility management, uterine fibroid treatment, endometriosis, and minimally invasive gynecologic surgery. Dr. Ferdousi earned her MBBS from Mymensingh Medical College. She completed her OB-GYN residency and postgraduate training at BIRDEM General Hospital and Sir Salimullah Medical College, obtaining FCPS (OB-GYN) and MCPS (OB-GYN) from the Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons.

She has undertaken additional training in laparoscopic gynecologic surgery and infertility management through workshops affiliated with the Obstetrical and Gynaecological Society of Bangladesh and the Bangladesh Fertility Society.

Dr. Ferdousi's obstetric practice emphasizes high-risk pregnancies, particularly those complicated by diabetes mellitus (pre-existing and gestational), hypertension, thyroid disorders, and anaemia — conditions with high prevalence in Bangladesh. She performs comprehensive antenatal care, fetal surveillance, and manages pregnancy complications including preterm labour, placenta praevia, and postpartum hemorrhage. She performs both normal vaginal deliveries and caesarean sections.

In gynecology, she manages female infertility through ovulation induction, IUI coordination, and referral for IVF when indicated. She performs myomectomy for uterine fibroids, hysteroscopy for uterine cavity assessment, and laparoscopic procedures for ovarian cysts and endometriosis.

She provides well-woman care including cervical cancer screening, contraceptive counselling, and management of menstrual disorders including PCOS.
