Dr. Carlos Alberto Marin

Dr. Carlos Alberto Marin is a pediatrician at Belmopan Hospital — the main public referral facility serving Belize's capital and the Cayo District. With 12 years of paediatric practice in Belize's public health system, he provides essential child health services to a population where infectious and tropical diseases, malnutrition, and limited access to specialist care define the healthcare landscape.

He has completed IMCI (Integrated Management of Childhood Illness) certification — the WHO and UNICEF programme that is central to child health service delivery in low-resource settings like Belize — and has participated in neonatology, tropical paediatrics, and nutrition management training programmes supported by PAHO (Pan American Health Organization) and UNICEF in Belize. Dr. Marin's paediatric practice covers neonatal assessment at Belmopan Hospital's maternity unit, comprehensive child health surveillance including growth monitoring and developmental assessment, and the diagnosis and management of acute illness. His tropical paediatrics experience includes malaria diagnosis (RDT and microscopy) and artemisinin-based combination therapy, dengue case management, and typhoid in children. He manages acute gastroenteritis with oral rehydration, acute respiratory infections including pneumonia with antibiotic therapy, and acute malnutrition using WHO therapeutic feeding protocols. He manages Belize's national childhood vaccination programme at the district level.
