Dr. María Condori

Dr. María Condori is a consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist at Hospital de Clínicas in Sucre — Bolivia's constitutional capital and a city situated at 2,750 metres above sea level. With over 10 years of clinical experience, she manages a comprehensive obstetrics and gynaecology practice that is uniquely shaped by the challenges of high-altitude pregnancy care.

Bolivia is one of South America's highest and most geographically diverse nations, and obstetric care at altitude presents specific challenges including increased risk of preeclampsia, foetal growth restriction, and anaemia in pregnancy — all of which are more prevalent at elevation. Dr. Condori has developed particular expertise in high-altitude obstetrics and maternal health in a resource-limited setting.

Dr. Condori completed her MD at the Universidad Mayor Real y Pontificia de San Francisco Xavier de Chuquisaca (USFX) — Sucre's historic university, one of Bolivia's oldest medical schools. She completed her obstetrics and gynaecology specialty residency at Hospital de Clínicas in Sucre, gaining extensive experience in both normal and high-risk obstetric management. She has participated in FLASOG (Federación Latinoamericana de Sociedades de Obstetricia y Ginecología) continuing medical education programmes. She is certified by the Sociedad Boliviana de Obstetricia y Ginecología and participates in Bolivian national safe motherhood training programmes.

Dr. Condori's obstetric practice covers the management of normal and high-risk pregnancies at high altitude, with particular expertise in anaemia in pregnancy (iron deficiency and altitude-related erythrocytosis), hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (particularly preeclampsia, which has higher rates at altitude), and foetal growth restriction monitoring.

She manages both vaginal deliveries and caesarean sections, including emergency obstetric procedures. In gynaecology, she performs hysteroscopy, laparoscopic procedures for ovarian cysts and fibroid management, and colposcopy for cervical cancer screening and CIN management.
