Dr. Amira Begović

Dr. Amira Begović is a medical oncologist at the Clinical Centre University of Sarajevo, the main academic medical centre in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Over 15 years, she has built specialised expertise in breast cancer management and systemic oncology, working within the hospital's multidisciplinary cancer team. Dr. Begović holds a PhD in oncology and is an active member of the European Society for Medical Oncology. She participates in tumour boards, designs personalised chemotherapy and targeted therapy protocols, and enrols eligible patients in clinical trials. Her research contributions have helped elevate oncology practice standards in post-conflict Bosnia and Herzegovina, where rebuilding medical infrastructure has been a sustained national priority.

Dr. Begović completed her MD at the University of Sarajevo School of Medicine and subsequently earned a PhD in medical oncology, with doctoral research focused on molecular subtypes of breast cancer. She completed fellowship training in medical oncology at European partner institutions and is a member of ESMO, regularly attending the ESMO Congress. She has participated in ESMO clinical oncology training programmes and maintains active involvement in continuing oncological education in the Western Balkans region.

Dr. Begović's primary area of expertise is breast cancer management across all stages, from early-stage adjuvant treatment to metastatic disease. She also manages colorectal, lung, ovarian, and lymphoid malignancies. Her clinical skills include designing evidence-based chemotherapy regimens, initiating and monitoring targeted therapies including CDK4/6 inhibitors and HER2-directed agents, and managing immunotherapy-related adverse effects. She is the lead oncologist for the Clinical Centre's breast cancer multidisciplinary team and co-ordinates care with breast surgeons, radiation oncologists, and pathologists.
