Dr. Amra Husić-Selimović

Dr. Amra Husić-Selimović is a gastroenterologist and hepatologist at the Clinical Centre University of Sarajevo — Bosnia and Herzegovina's premier academic medical center and the main referral hospital for the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. With 15 years of experience in gastroenterology and advanced endoscopy, she is among the country's leading specialists in inflammatory bowel disease and hepatology.

She trained in gastroenterology in Germany at a university hospital program, gaining exposure to European endoscopy standards before returning to Sarajevo. Her endoscopy practice covers the full range of diagnostic and therapeutic upper and lower GI procedures, including ERCP for biliary and pancreatic pathology.

Bosnian patients have a significant burden of chronic liver disease from hepatitis B and C, alcoholic liver disease, and NAFLD, and Dr. Husić-Selimović's hepatology clinic provides non-invasive and biopsy-based liver disease assessment and antiviral therapy for viral hepatitis. She is an ESGE member and brings European endoscopy standards to her practice. She consults in Bosnian, English, and German.

Dr. Husić-Selimović completed her MD at the University of Sarajevo Faculty of Medicine. She underwent specialist training in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology in Sarajevo and undertook advanced endoscopy training at a German university hospital. Her PhD from the University of Sarajevo focused on inflammatory bowel disease epidemiology in Bosnia and Herzegovina. She is a member of the European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ESGE) and the Society for Gastroenterology and Hepatology of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Dr. Husić-Selimović performs upper GI endoscopy, colonoscopy, and ERCP with therapeutic capability including sphincterotomy and stent placement for biliary obstruction. She manages inflammatory bowel disease — Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis — with 5-ASA agents, immunomodulators, and biologics, and participates in the bowel cancer screening program in Sarajevo. In hepatology, she assesses liver fibrosis using FibroScan and biopsy, manages hepatitis B and C with antiviral therapy, and coordinates management of decompensated cirrhosis with the hospital's liver team.

Dr. Husić-Selimović sees international patients and members of the Bosnian diaspora who return to Sarajevo for specialist gastroenterology care, which is available at significantly lower cost than in Western Europe. She consults in Bosnian, English, and German. Video consultations are available for gastroenterology second opinions and review of endoscopy reports and pathology. Dr. Husić-Selimović has been recognized by the Clinical Centre University of Sarajevo for her contribution to gastroenterology services and to the clinical research program. She is an active member of the Society for Gastroenterology and Hepatology of Bosnia and Herzegovina and serves on the ESGE national representative committee. Her research on IBD epidemiology in Bosnia has been published in regional and European gastroenterology journals.
