Dr. Elena Georgieva

Dr. Elena Georgieva is a medical oncologist at Tokuda Hospital Sofia, one of Bulgaria's leading private hospitals offering international-standard oncology care. With 16 years of clinical experience in medical oncology, she has developed specialized expertise in breast cancer and immunotherapy.

Dr. Georgieva completed an advanced oncology fellowship at the Charité University Hospital in Berlin, Germany, gaining exposure to the latest targeted and immune-based cancer therapies. She returned to Bulgaria where she has been instrumental in introducing immune checkpoint inhibitor therapy for eligible patients at Tokuda Hospital.

She practices multidisciplinary oncology, collaborating with surgical oncologists, radiation oncologists, and pathologists to ensure comprehensive individualized treatment planning for each patient. She has a particular interest in biomarker-driven treatment selection and the use of molecular tumor profiling to optimize therapy choices.

Dr. Georgieva is committed to patient education and supports patients and families in making informed decisions about their treatment options. She has experience caring for international patients from Russia, the UK, and other European countries.

Dr. Georgieva obtained her MD from the Medical University of Sofia in 2005. She completed her internal medicine and oncology residency at UMBAL Alexandrovska Hospital and undertook an advanced oncology fellowship at Charité University Hospital, Berlin (2010–2012). Her PhD from the Medical University of Sofia in 2014 focused on HER2-targeted therapy outcomes in metastatic breast cancer. She is an ESMO member and is certified by the Bulgarian Medical Union in medical oncology.

Dr. Georgieva's primary clinical focus is breast oncology, with expertise in all subtypes including hormone receptor-positive, HER2-positive, and triple-negative breast cancer. She designs and administers chemotherapy, targeted therapy (trastuzumab, pertuzumab, CDK4/6 inhibitors, mTOR inhibitors), and immune checkpoint inhibitor regimens. She also treats lung cancer, ovarian cancer, colorectal cancer, and melanoma. She integrates molecular profiling into clinical decision-making and manages patients on clinical trial protocols at Tokuda Hospital.

Dr. Georgieva has published over 20 peer-reviewed articles in oncology journals including Breast Cancer Research and Treatment and the European Journal of Cancer. Her research focuses on outcomes in HER2-positive breast cancer, predictive biomarkers for immunotherapy response, and the real-world effectiveness of CDK4/6 inhibitors. She collaborates with oncology groups in Germany and presents at ESMO congresses.

Dr. Georgieva speaks Bulgarian, Russian, and English and is experienced in treating international oncology patients.
