Dr. Bunna Kim

Dr. Bunna Kim is a general surgeon at Khmer-Soviet Friendship Hospital in Phnom Penh, one of Cambodia's established public referral hospitals. With 10 years of surgical experience, he provides general and abdominal surgical services within Cambodia's developing healthcare system.

Dr. Kim trained at the University of Health Sciences Cambodia and completed his surgical training at Phnom Penh's major hospitals. He has developed practical expertise in the common surgical conditions presenting in Cambodia, including abdominal emergencies, trauma surgery, and elective abdominal procedures.

Road traffic accidents are a significant public health challenge in Cambodia, and Dr. Kim manages a substantial volume of trauma surgery including abdominal trauma laparotomy, while also managing elective surgical cases including cholecystectomy, appendicectomy, hernia repair, and thyroid surgery.

He is committed to developing surgical capacity in Cambodia and mentors junior surgical trainees through Khmer-Soviet Friendship Hospital's postgraduate surgical program.

Dr. Kim earned his MD from the University of Health Sciences Cambodia and completed his surgical training at Phnom Penh teaching hospitals, obtaining MS in General Surgery. He holds a Certificate in Laparoscopic Surgery from training workshops in Thailand.

He has participated in continuing surgical education through the Cambodian Surgical Association and international surgical training programs supported by organisations working in Cambodia's healthcare sector.

Dr. Kim performs appendicectomy (laparoscopic and open), cholecystectomy, inguinal and incisional hernia repair, small and large bowel procedures including bowel resection and stoma formation for obstruction. He performs thyroid surgery for goitre and thyroid nodules.

Trauma surgery forms a major component of his emergency surgical practice, including exploratory laparotomy for abdominal trauma, spleen and liver lacerations, and bowel perforation from blunt and penetrating trauma.

He also manages soft tissue infections, abscesses, and wound management in the post-operative and emergency context.

Dr. Kim is focused on clinical surgical practice in Cambodia. He contributes to surgical training and capacity development through Khmer-Soviet Friendship Hospital's teaching programs and participates in Cambodian Surgical Association continuing education activities.

Dr. Kim manages international patients and expatriates requiring emergency surgical care at Khmer-Soviet Friendship Hospital. He consults in Khmer and English. International visitors who sustain injuries or require emergency abdominal surgery while in Cambodia can access care through this hospital.

Dr. Kim has contributed to surgical capacity development at Khmer-Soviet Friendship Hospital. He is a member of the Cambodian Surgical Association and participates in continuing surgical education programs in Cambodia.
