Dr. Mahamat Ali Oumar

Dr. Mahamat Ali Oumar is a senior internist at the Centre Hospitalier Universitaire la Renaissance (CHU la Renaissance) in N'Djamena, Chad's primary university teaching hospital. With 12 years of clinical experience in one of West Africa's most challenging healthcare environments, he manages a diverse and demanding caseload covering tropical infectious diseases, non-communicable diseases, and complex multi-system presentations. Chad has one of the world's lowest physician-to-population ratios, and Dr. Oumar's breadth of expertise is essential for managing patients who would require multiple specialist referrals in higher-income settings. Infectious diseases form the largest component of his practice: he manages severe and complicated malaria including cerebral malaria, typhoid fever, bacterial meningitis, tuberculosis (pulmonary and extra-pulmonary), and HIV/AIDS including initiation of antiretroviral therapy. He also diagnoses and treats schistosomiasis, brucellosis, and other neglected tropical diseases.
