Dr. Wang Jianguo

Dr. Wang Jianguo is a senior cardiologist at Peking Union Medical College Hospital (PUMCH) in Beijing, China's most prestigious academic medical institution affiliated with the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences. With 24 years of experience, he is a recognized authority in interventional cardiology and cardiac electrophysiology.

Dr. Wang completed his medical and doctoral training at Peking Union Medical College, one of China's most selective medical institutions, before undertaking advanced fellowship training in interventional cardiology and electrophysiology at Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, and the Bordeaux University Hospital in France — a world centre for cardiac ablation.

Returning to PUMCH, Dr. Wang established the hospital's complex cardiac ablation program and has been instrumental in expanding access to modern electrophysiology procedures across northern China. He has performed over 4,000 cardiac catheterization procedures and more than 1,500 ablation procedures for cardiac arrhythmias.

As China's population ages and cardiovascular disease prevalence rises, Dr. Wang's expertise positions him at the centre of the country's evolving response to its cardiovascular disease epidemic. He sees patients from across China and from Chinese communities across Asia.

Dr. Wang earned his MD and PhD from Peking Union Medical College. He completed his cardiology residency and fellowship at PUMCH before undertaking international fellowship training in interventional cardiology at Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, and in cardiac electrophysiology at Bordeaux University Hospital, France — the birthplace of catheter ablation for atrial fibrillation.

He is board-certified in Cardiovascular Medicine by the Chinese Society of Cardiology and holds fellowship credentials in cardiac electrophysiology. He has served as visiting faculty at several leading cardiology training programs in China and has been invited to teach at international cardiology workshops in Southeast Asia.

Dr. Wang's dual expertise in interventional cardiology and electrophysiology is relatively uncommon and makes him uniquely suited to managing patients with complex combined coronary and arrhythmia pathologies. In coronary intervention, he manages acute coronary syndromes, stable angina, and complex multivessel coronary artery disease using contemporary PCI techniques.

In electrophysiology, he performs catheter ablation for atrial fibrillation (both paroxysmal and persistent), atrial flutter, supraventricular tachycardia, and ventricular tachycardia. He implants pacemakers, implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICD), and cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) devices.

He also manages general cardiology conditions including heart failure, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, and inherited arrhythmia syndromes such as Brugada syndrome and long QT syndrome.

Dr. Wang has published over 80 peer-reviewed papers in journals including the Journal of the American College of Cardiology (JACC), Heart Rhythm, and the Chinese Medical Journal. His research has contributed to understanding of atrial fibrillation mechanisms in Chinese patients and outcomes of ablation in Asian populations.

He has been principal investigator on national multi-centre studies registered with the Chinese Clinical Trial Registry and has participated in international trial consortia studying novel anticoagulation and ablation approaches in atrial fibrillation. He presents at the Chinese Society of Cardiology Annual Congress and the Heart Rhythm Society Annual Scientific Sessions.

Dr. Wang consults at PUMCH, which provides international patient services for overseas patients seeking care at China's flagship academic medical centre. He consults in Mandarin and English.
