Dr. Ana Babić

Dr. Ana Babić is a cardiologist at the KBC Zagreb Heart Center, part of the Clinical Hospital Centre Zagreb — Croatia's largest and most comprehensive hospital. With 17 years of clinical experience, she has become a recognized specialist in cardiac imaging and heart failure management.

She completed an advanced echocardiography fellowship at the Medical University of Vienna, where she trained in all modalities of cardiac imaging including 3D echocardiography and strain imaging. Returning to Zagreb, she introduced advanced echocardiographic protocols to the KBC Heart Center's imaging laboratory.

Dr. Babić manages a busy outpatient heart failure clinic, overseeing guideline-directed medical therapy optimization, device therapy evaluation, and patient education programs. She is active in the Croatian Cardiac Society and participates in European heart failure quality initiatives.

She is known for her clarity in communicating complex cardiac information to patients and for her dedication to preventive cardiology, helping high-risk patients reduce their cardiovascular risk through evidence-based interventions.

Dr. Babić graduated from the University of Zagreb School of Medicine in 2004. She completed her cardiology residency at KBC Zagreb Heart Center and undertook an advanced echocardiography fellowship at the Medical University of Vienna, Austria (2010–2011). Her PhD from the University of Zagreb in 2014 focused on myocardial strain assessment in heart failure with preserved ejection fraction. She is a Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology (FESC) and is certified by the Croatian Medical Chamber in cardiology.

Dr. Babić's primary clinical expertise is in cardiac imaging and heart failure management. She performs all modalities of echocardiography including 2D and 3D transthoracic and transesophageal echo, speckle-tracking strain imaging, and stress echocardiography. She manages patients with chronic heart failure, both reduced and preserved ejection fraction, optimizing medical therapy and coordinating device therapy evaluation. She also conducts comprehensive cardiovascular risk assessments and manages hypertension, coronary artery disease, and valvular heart disease in outpatient settings.

Dr. Babić has published over 20 peer-reviewed articles in journals including the European Journal of Heart Failure and the Journal of the American Society of Echocardiography. Her research focuses on myocardial deformation imaging, heart failure with preserved ejection fraction, and the prognostic value of strain echocardiography. She collaborates with cardiology groups in Vienna and presents at ESC congresses.

Dr. Babić speaks Croatian, German, and English and is experienced in providing cardiology consultations and second opinions to international patients. KBC Zagreb Heart Center provides English and German-language consultation summaries and imaging reports. Video consultations are available for remote follow-up.
