Dr. Christina Georgiou

Dr. Christina Georgiou is a consultant paediatrician at Makarios III Hospital in Nicosia — Cyprus's leading paediatric and neonatal referral centre operated by the Ministry of Health. With 16 years of specialist experience, she provides comprehensive child health services from neonatal intensive care through to adolescent medicine. Makarios III Hospital is the principal destination for complex paediatric and neonatal cases in the Republic of Cyprus, receiving referrals from across the island. Dr. Georgiou trained both in Cyprus and the United Kingdom, where she obtained the Membership of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (MRCPCH) — a gold-standard paediatric qualification — before returning to serve the Cypriot health system. She sees both local Cypriot patients under the GESY (General Health System) and private patients including the many British expatriates and international visitors who reside in or visit Cyprus.

Dr. Georgiou completed her MD in Cyprus and undertook postgraduate paediatric training in the United Kingdom, earning the Membership of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (MRCPCH) — a comprehensive postgraduate qualification requiring completion of clinical placements, written examinations, and structured competency assessments across all paediatric subspecialties. She holds an MSc in Paediatrics and has completed neonatal intensive care training, gaining specific expertise in the management of preterm and term neonates requiring intensive support. She is a member of the European Academy of Paediatrics and attends the European Paediatric Association Congress and Cyprus Paediatric Society annual meetings for continuing education and professional development.

Dr. Georgiou's paediatric practice covers the full age range from birth through adolescence. In neonatology, she manages premature and term newborns in Makarios Hospital's NICU, including respiratory distress, neonatal infection, jaundice, and feeding difficulties. She performs newborn resuscitation and stabilisation.

For older children, she manages asthma and recurrent wheeze, febrile seizures, urinary tract infections, childhood viral and bacterial infections, and allergic conditions including atopic dermatitis and food allergies. Developmental screening and assessment for developmental delay or autism spectrum concerns form part of her outpatient practice. She supervises the vaccination programme for children under GESY.

Cyprus is home to a large British expatriate community and receives significant numbers of tourists from the UK, Russia, and the EU. Dr. Georgiou consults in Greek and English and is experienced in managing paediatric care for expatriate families. Under Cyprus's GESY universal health system, EU citizens can access care using the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC). Private consultations are available for non-EU patients. Video consultations are available for follow-up and second opinion consultations.

Dr. Georgiou is a member of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (UK) and the European Academy of Paediatrics, reflecting her commitment to internationally benchmarked paediatric clinical standards.
