Dr. Martin Novak

Dr. Martin Novak is a consultant orthopaedic surgeon at University Hospital Motol in Prague — one of the largest and most prominent teaching hospitals in Central Europe and the primary hospital of the 2nd Faculty of Medicine, Charles University. With 20 years of surgical experience, Dr. Novak specialises in joint replacement surgery, sports orthopaedics, and spinal surgery, having performed over 2,500 major orthopaedic procedures.

Prague and the Czech Republic have become significant destinations for medical tourism in orthopaedic surgery, offering JCI-level care quality at substantially lower cost than Western European and North American alternatives. Dr. Novak completed his MUDr (Doctor of Medicine) at the 2nd Faculty of Medicine, Charles University in Prague — one of Central Europe's most distinguished medical schools, founded in 1348. He undertook his orthopaedic residency and specialist training at University Hospital Motol, completing both Atestace I. and II. stupně in Orthopaedics — the Czech two-stage specialist certification system. He completed his Ph.D. from Charles University focusing on biomechanics of hip replacement implants. He undertook surgical observerships at the Charite Berlin and the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) in New York, gaining exposure to the latest joint replacement and sports orthopaedic techniques.

Dr. Novak's primary surgical practice covers three areas. In joint replacement surgery, he performs primary and revision total hip arthroplasty using both posterior and anterior approaches, including minimally invasive techniques and computer-navigated implantation. He performs total knee replacement including posterior-stabilised, cruciate-retaining, and unicompartmental designs. In sports orthopaedics, he performs arthroscopic ACL reconstruction (patellar tendon and hamstring graft), meniscal repair and partial meniscectomy, shoulder arthroscopy for rotator cuff repair, and cartilage restoration procedures. In spinal surgery, he performs lumbar microdiscectomy and cervical and lumbar decompression.

University Hospital Motol has an international patient department with English, German, and Russian-speaking coordinators. Dr. Novak consults in Czech, Slovak, English, and German, making him well-suited to serve Western European and international patients.
