Dr. Lamin Ceesay

Dr. Lamin Ceesay is a general practitioner at the Royal Victoria Teaching Hospital (RVTH) in Banjul, the Gambia's capital city and the country's main referral hospital. With over 15 years of clinical experience, Dr. Ceesay serves as a frontline physician in one of West Africa's smallest and most densely populated countries, a thin strip of land along the Gambia River surrounded by Senegal, with a population of approximately 2.6 million. The Gambia's healthcare system is resource-constrained, with RVTH functioning as the country's only national teaching hospital and the primary destination for complex or undifferentiated medical cases from across the country. He is skilled in the diagnosis and management of malaria in adults and children using rapid diagnostic tests and WHO-standard treatment protocols, the assessment and treatment of acute respiratory and diarrhoeal infections, and the long-term management of hypertension and diabetes mellitus with available oral medications. He performs wound care, suturing of lacerations, and minor soft tissue procedures, and provides antenatal assessment including blood pressure monitoring and malaria prophylaxis in pregnancy. He administers childhood immunisations and provides health education on disease prevention for patients and families.
