Dr. Levan Kereselidze

Dr. Levan Kereselidze is a senior consultant neurosurgeon at New Hospitals Tbilisi — one of Georgia's modern private hospital groups offering specialist surgical care in a country that has invested significantly in healthcare infrastructure reform over the past two decades. With 20 years of neurosurgical practice, Dr. Kereselidze is among Georgia's most experienced neurosurgeons, performing complex cranial and spinal procedures for a domestic population and increasingly for patients from neighboring South Caucasus countries who travel to Tbilisi for neurosurgical care.

His brain tumor surgery practice uses neuronavigation and the operative microscope for craniotomy and tumor resection, managing gliomas, meningiomas, metastases, and pituitary tumors. He works closely with Tbilisi's oncology and radiation therapy facilities for multimodal brain tumor management. His spinal surgery covers the standard degenerative spinal procedures most commonly needed: lumbar microdiscectomy, cervical discectomy and fusion, and lumbar decompression with and without instrumented fusion.

Dr. Kereselidze also manages emergency neurosurgical presentations including traumatic brain injury, acute subdural and extradural hematomas, and hydrocephalus requiring urgent shunting or endoscopic ventricular procedures. He is one of the few Georgian neurosurgeons who trained in Western Europe and holds the FEBNS (Fellow of the European Board of Neurological Surgery), bringing European specialty standards to Georgian neurosurgery.

Dr. Kereselidze obtained his MD from Tbilisi State Medical University and completed Neurosurgery residency in Tbilisi. He undertook higher neurosurgical training in Germany at the Charité University Hospital in Berlin — one of Europe's leading neurosurgery centers. He holds a PhD in Neurosurgery from Tbilisi State Medical University and the FEBNS (Fellow of the European Board of Neurological Surgery) designation from the European Association for Neurosurgical Societies. He is an Associate Professor of Neurosurgery at Tbilisi State Medical University.

Dr. Kereselidze's neurosurgical practice covers cranial and spinal surgery. In cranial surgery, he performs craniotomies using neuronavigation for primary and secondary brain tumors, evacuation of traumatic and spontaneous intracranial hematomas, and ventriculoperitoneal shunt insertion and revision for hydrocephalus. He performs endoscopic third ventriculostomy for obstructive hydrocephalus and stereotactic brain biopsy for unresectable lesions. In spinal surgery, he performs lumbar microdiscectomy, anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF), posterior cervical foraminotomy, and lumbar decompression with or without pedicle screw fixation. He performs intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring for high-risk spinal procedures.

Dr. Kereselidze has published in the Georgian Medical News and contributed to the European neurosurgery registry through EANS network participation. He is an active member of the Georgian Neurosurgical Society and has presented at the EANS Annual Congress and regional Caucasus neurosurgery meetings. He contributes to neurosurgery training at Tbilisi State Medical University.
