Dr. Claudette Robinson-Gordon

Dr. Claudette Robinson-Gordon is a consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist at the University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI) in Kingston — Jamaica's principal academic teaching hospital and the regional tertiary care centre for the English-speaking Caribbean. With 20 years of specialist experience, she is one of Jamaica's senior OB/GYN specialists, combining clinical excellence with academic teaching at the UWI Faculty of Medical Sciences.

Jamaica faces significant maternal health challenges including pre-eclampsia, gestational diabetes, and cervical cancer — the latter driven by high HPV prevalence and historically limited screening programmes. Dr. Robinson-Gordon's practice addresses these challenges: she manages complex high-risk pregnancies through UHWI's maternal-foetal medicine service and provides gynaecological oncology care including cervical cancer prevention (colposcopy, LEEP) and surgical management of gynaecological malignancies.

Dr. Robinson-Gordon completed her MBBS at the University of the West Indies and her postgraduate specialist training through UWI's DM programme in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. She obtained Fellowship of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (FRCOG, UK) following UK-based assessments. She has completed advanced laparoscopic surgery training and gynaecological oncology subspecialty courses through RCOG and Caribbean Society of Obstetrics and Gynaecology programmes.

Dr. Robinson-Gordon's obstetric practice encompasses management of high-risk pregnancy conditions including pre-eclampsia with antihypertensive therapy and foetal surveillance, gestational diabetes with insulin and dietary management, preterm labour prevention and management, multiple pregnancy, and foetal growth restriction. She performs amniocentesis for diagnostic foetal testing and detailed foetal anomaly ultrasonography.

In gynaecology, she performs colposcopy for abnormal cervical smears with directed biopsy, LEEP for cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN), laparoscopic hysterectomy and myomectomy, and hysteroscopic procedures for uterine pathology. Her gynaecological oncology practice includes surgical staging and debulking for cervical, endometrial, and ovarian malignancies.

UHWI is the Caribbean's largest English-speaking academic hospital and sees patients from across the region. Dr. Robinson-Gordon consults in English and regularly sees members of the Jamaican diaspora from the UK, USA, and Canada returning for specialist gynaecological or obstetric care.
