Dr. Khaled Al Rawashdeh

Dr. Khaled Al Rawashdeh is a consultant neurosurgeon at Istishari Hospital in Amman — one of Jordan's premier private hospitals with a strong reputation for complex surgical subspecialty care. Over 18 years of neurosurgical practice, Dr. Al Rawashdeh has built a comprehensive program in cranial and spinal surgery, with particular emphasis on brain tumor resection and degenerative spinal disease.

Jordan's position as a regional medical hub for the Arab world means that Dr. Al Rawashdeh regularly receives referrals for neurosurgical evaluation from Iraq, Syria, Palestine, Libya, and other countries where neurosurgical capacity is limited. He has extensive experience evaluating patients with complex brain tumors including gliomas, meningiomas, and metastatic disease, as well as patients with acute traumatic brain injuries who require emergency surgical intervention.

In spinal surgery, Dr. Al Rawashdeh performs both cervical and lumbar procedures, including minimally invasive discectomy and laminectomy for radiculopathy and myelopathy, and instrumented fusion for spinal instability. Dr. Al Rawashdeh completed his MBBS at the University of Jordan Faculty of Medicine and undertook his General Surgery foundation training in Amman. He traveled to the United Kingdom for Neurosurgery higher surgical training, completing his FRCS (Neurosurgery) following training at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust — a leading UK neurosurgery center with a high-volume brain and spinal surgery program. He completed additional fellowships in skull base surgery and minimally invasive spine surgery at affiliated European centers. He holds active membership in the European Association of Neurosurgical Societies (EANS) and the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies (WFNS).

Dr. Al Rawashdeh's neurosurgical repertoire encompasses cranial and spinal procedures across the full spectrum of complexity. In cranial surgery, he performs craniotomies for tumor resection (gliomas, meningiomas, metastases, pituitary tumors), evacuation of subdural and extradural haematomas, and aneurysm clipping for selected cases. In spinal surgery, he performs anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF), lumbar microdiscectomy, posterior lumbar interbody fusion (PLIF), and laminectomy for stenosis. He uses the operative microscope and endoscopy for minimally invasive approaches. He manages ICP monitoring in the neurointensive care setting for patients with traumatic brain injury and hydrocephalus with VP shunting and endoscopic third ventriculostomy.

Dr. Al Rawashdeh has published in the British Journal of Neurosurgery and the Pan Arab Journal of Neurosurgery on topics including outcomes of glioma surgery in Jordanian and Arab patients and the management of traumatic brain injury in a high-volume Middle Eastern hospital. He participates in the Jordan Neurosurgery Society and presents at regional and international neurosurgery conferences. He serves as a mentor for neurosurgery residents at the Jordan Medical Council training program.

Istishari Hospital's international patient program is accustomed to receiving patients from conflict-affected countries seeking neurosurgical care.
