Dr. Bader Al Mutairi

Dr. Bader Al Mutairi is a senior consultant cardiologist and interventional specialist at Dar Al Shifa Hospital in Kuwait City — one of Kuwait's leading private hospitals with a strong cardiology program serving both Kuwaiti nationals and the emirate's large expatriate population. With 20 years of cardiology practice, Dr. Al Mutairi has established himself as one of Kuwait's foremost interventional cardiologists, combining high-volume catheterization laboratory experience with an evidence-based heart failure management program.

Kuwait carries a significant cardiovascular disease burden, driven by high rates of type 2 diabetes, obesity, and sedentary lifestyle in both the national and expatriate populations. Dr. Al Mutairi's preventive and interventional work addresses this burden directly, with a cardiac catheterization laboratory that provides around-the-clock primary PCI for acute MI alongside a scheduled program of elective complex coronary intervention.

His heart failure clinic at Dar Al Shifa operates on a multidisciplinary model, integrating cardiologist-led pharmacotherapy optimization with nursing and dietitian support. He is experienced in the use of the four pillars of heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) therapy — ACE inhibitors/ARNIs, beta-blockers, MRAs, and SGLT-2 inhibitors — and coordinates device therapy evaluation with electrophysiology colleagues.

Dr. Al Mutairi obtained his MBBS from Kuwait University Faculty of Medicine and completed Internal Medicine residency in Kuwait. He undertook a Cardiology Fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio, USA, followed by an Interventional Cardiology Fellowship at the same institution. He holds the FACC (Fellow of the American College of Cardiology) and FESC (Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology) designations and is board-certified in Cardiovascular Disease and Interventional Cardiology by the American Board of Internal Medicine.

Dr. Al Mutairi performs primary PCI for STEMI, elective PCI for stable coronary disease, and complex coronary interventions including CTO, bifurcation, and left main PCI with intravascular imaging guidance. He performs diagnostic coronary angiography via radial access as standard. In heart failure, he optimizes guideline-directed medical therapy, orders and interprets cardiac MRI for cardiomyopathy assessment, and coordinates CRT and ICD referral. He performs and interprets echocardiography including stress echo and transesophageal echo. He also manages atrial fibrillation with rhythm control and rate control strategies and anticoagulation risk assessment.

Dr. Al Mutairi has published in the Kuwait Medical Journal, the Gulf Heart Association Journal, the International Journal of Cardiology, and the European Heart Journal — Cardiovascular Quality and Outcomes on PCI outcomes in Kuwait, heart failure management strategies, ARNI therapy adoption, and cardiovascular risk factor burden in the Gulf population. He has contributed to over 18 peer-reviewed publications and participates in the Gulf HEART registry, which tracks coronary intervention outcomes across the GCC. He presents at the Gulf Heart Association annual scientific meeting and the American College of Cardiology Middle East Summit, where he has shared outcomes data on heart failure pharmacotherapy and complex coronary intervention in Kuwaiti patients.

Dar Al Shifa Hospital serves Kuwait's domestic population including its large South Asian, Egyptian, and other Arab expatriate communities, and is one of the emirate's principal private cardiology referral centers. Dr. Al Mutairi consults fluently in Arabic and English, making him accessible to patients from across the Gulf and beyond.

Video consultations are available for cardiac second opinions and pre-procedure assessment, enabling patients from Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, and other neighboring Gulf states to share ECGs, echocardiogram reports, and coronary angiography images for review before traveling to Kuwait City.
