Dr. Mariam Al Qattan

Dr. Mariam Al Qattan is a senior medical oncologist and hematologist at the Kuwait Cancer Control Center — Kuwait's national oncology institution and the primary referral center for cancer diagnosis and treatment in the Sultanate. With 18 years of oncology practice, Dr. Al Qattan has become one of Kuwait's leading authorities in hematological malignancies, particularly lymphoma and leukemia, alongside a comprehensive solid tumor oncology practice.

The Kuwait Cancer Control Center operates a multidisciplinary oncology program that includes medical oncology, radiotherapy, and surgical oncology, with a bone marrow transplant program for eligible patients with hematological malignancies. Dr. Al Qattan works within this multidisciplinary framework, contributing to weekly tumor board reviews and coordinating care across subspecialties.

In lymphoma, she manages diffuse large B-cell lymphoma with R-CHOP and salvage regimens, Hodgkin lymphoma with ABVD and escalated BEACOPP, and follicular and marginal zone lymphomas with rituximab-based approaches. For acute leukemia, she designs induction and consolidation chemotherapy in coordination with the bone marrow transplant team. In solid tumors, she manages breast, colorectal, and lung cancers with contemporary systemic therapy regimens.

Dr. Al Qattan trained in the United Kingdom and holds MRCP and FRCR qualifications. She communicates in Arabic and English.

Dr. Al Qattan obtained her MBBS from Kuwait University Faculty of Medicine and completed Internal Medicine residency at Mubarak Al Kabeer Hospital in Kuwait. She undertook Medical Oncology training in the United Kingdom, completing her MRCP and FRCR following training at University College London Hospitals. She completed a Hematological Oncology Fellowship at University College London Cancer Institute. She holds active ESMO certification and maintains ASH membership.

Dr. Al Qattan's oncology practice spans hematological and solid tumor malignancies. In lymphoma, she manages all major B-cell and T-cell lymphomas using rituximab-based and novel agent combinations, coordinates PET-CT for response assessment, and manages relapsed/refractory disease with CAR-T cell therapy referral for eligible patients. For acute leukemia, she coordinates induction chemotherapy, MRD monitoring, and allogeneic transplant work-up. In solid tumors, she prescribes chemotherapy, targeted therapy, and immunotherapy for breast, colorectal, and lung cancer. She performs bone marrow aspirate and biopsy, intrathecal chemotherapy administration, and central venous access assessment.

Dr. Al Qattan has published in the Kuwait Medical Journal, Blood Advances, the Annals of Hematology, and the Journal of Oncology Practice on lymphoma epidemiology in Kuwait, R-CHOP and escalated BEACOPP treatment outcomes, CAR-T cell therapy access challenges in the Gulf, and acute leukemia induction outcomes at the Kuwait Cancer Control Center. She has contributed to over 15 peer-reviewed articles and participates in clinical trials through KCCC's international trial program. She presents at the Gulf Hematology and Oncology Society annual meeting and the American Society of Hematology annual congress, where she has presented registry data on lymphoma in the Kuwaiti population.

The Kuwait Cancer Control Center serves Kuwait's domestic population and accepts referrals from across the GCC region for complex hematological malignancies and oncology care. As Kuwait's national cancer institution, the KCCC maintains international oncology partnerships and is equipped with a bone marrow transplant program, advanced imaging, and a clinical trial unit.

Dr. Al Qattan consults in Arabic and English. Video consultations are available for second-opinion oncology assessments for patients from Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, and other Gulf states, particularly for lymphoma diagnoses, treatment planning, and relapsed or refractory hematological malignancy management. Patients can submit pathology reports, PET-CT imaging, and treatment history for detailed remote review before traveling to Kuwait City. KCCC's patient coordination team assists with referral paperwork, appointment scheduling, and accommodation arrangements.

Dr. Al Qattan has received the Kuwait Oncology Society Clinical Excellence Award in recognition of her 18-year contribution to hematological oncology and lymphoma care in Kuwait. She has been recognized by the Kuwait Cancer Control Center for her role in building the institution's structured lymphoma multidisciplinary team and for expanding access to CAR-T cell therapy referral pathways for Kuwaiti patients.

She serves on the Kuwait National Cancer Control Plan advisory committee, contributing to hematological malignancy treatment guidelines. She is a faculty member at Gulf oncology CME programs organized by ESMO and the Gulf Hematology and Oncology Society. She holds active ESMO membership and ASH membership, and is a member of the Kuwait Medical Association's oncology subspecialty committee.
