Dr. Andrejs Millers

Dr. Andrejs Millers is a neurologist at Paula Stradiņa Clinical University Hospital in Riga, Latvia's leading academic hospital and the primary neurology referral center. With 18 years of clinical neurology practice, he has developed expertise in stroke, multiple sclerosis, and cognitive neurology.

He completed a neurology fellowship at Karolinska University Hospital in Stockholm, Sweden, where he trained in acute stroke protocols and MS disease-modifying therapy. His Scandinavian training reflects Latvia's orientation toward Nordic healthcare models and gave him exposure to some of the world's best neurological care.

Dr. Millers leads the MS outpatient clinic at Paula Stradiņa Hospital and has established a memory clinic for early dementia diagnosis — an important clinical gap he identified in Latvian neurology services. He is an EAN member and participates in Baltic and Nordic neurology research networks.

He is known for his rigorous diagnostic approach, his evidence-based practice, and his dedication to improving neurology services in Latvia to EU and Nordic standards.

Dr. Millers received his MD from Riga Stradins University Faculty of Medicine in 2003. He completed his neurology residency at Paula Stradiņa Clinical University Hospital and undertook a neurology fellowship at the Karolinska University Hospital, Stockholm, Sweden (2008–2009). His PhD from Riga Stradins University in 2012 focused on MS disease progression and treatment outcomes in Latvian patients. He is a member of the European Academy of Neurology and is certified by the Latvian Medical Association in neurology.

Dr. Millers manages the full spectrum of neurological disease. In stroke, he provides acute thrombolysis, thrombectomy referral coordination, and evidence-based secondary prevention including anticoagulation for AF-related stroke, statin therapy, and hypertension management. In multiple sclerosis, he prescribes all disease-modifying therapies — interferons, glatiramer acetate, natalizumab, ocrelizumab, and cladribine — and monitors treatment response with annual MRI and clinical disability assessment.

In epilepsy, he titrates antiseizure medications, interprets EEG for seizure type classification, and coordinates surgical evaluation for drug-resistant epilepsy. In dementia, he performs comprehensive cognitive testing using MoCA, MMSE, and neuropsychological battery, interprets CSF biomarkers for Alzheimer's disease, and leads a structured memory clinic follow-up program. He also manages Parkinson's disease with dopaminergic therapy and coordinates DBS referral for eligible patients.

Dr. Millers has published over 18 peer-reviewed articles in journals including the Multiple Sclerosis Journal, the European Journal of Neurology, and the Journal of Neurology on MS epidemiology and treatment outcomes in Latvia, early dementia biomarkers including CSF amyloid and tau, and stroke secondary prevention outcomes in the Latvian population. He collaborates with neurologists at Karolinska University Hospital in Sweden and participates in Baltic and Nordic neurology research networks including the MS Register Nordic network. He presents regularly at the European Academy of Neurology annual congress and the Baltic-Nordic Neurology conference.

Dr. Millers speaks Latvian, Russian, and English and is experienced in providing neurology consultations and second opinions to international patients. Paula Stradiņa Clinical University Hospital has a dedicated international patient service that provides English and Russian-language consultation reports and assists with appointment coordination.
