Dr. Tomas Jankauskas

Dr. Tomas Jankauskas is a senior interventional cardiologist at Santara Clinics in Vilnius, Lithuania's foremost academic medical center affiliated with Vilnius University. With 19 years of clinical experience, he is among Lithuania's most respected cardiologists.

Santara Clinics (formerly Vilnius University Hospital Santariškės) is the largest hospital in Lithuania and the primary national referral center for complex cardiovascular disease. Dr. Jankauskas has played a central role in developing the hospital's interventional cardiology and cardiac device therapy programs.

He completed an interventional cardiology and device therapy fellowship at the Leiden University Medical Centre in the Netherlands, one of Europe's leading cardiac centers known for its expertise in both PCI and cardiac electrophysiology. His Dutch training gave him world-class skills in complex coronary interventions and cardiac resynchronization therapy.

Dr. Jankauskas is a Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology and contributes to Baltic and European cardiology educational networks. He leads Lithuania's national heart failure registry data collection and is committed to improving heart failure care quality across Lithuania.

Dr. Jankauskas graduated from Vilnius University Faculty of Medicine in 2002. He completed his cardiology residency at Santara Clinics and undertook an interventional cardiology and device therapy fellowship at Leiden University Medical Centre (LUMC), Netherlands (2007–2009). His PhD from Vilnius University in 2012 focused on cardiac resynchronization therapy outcomes in Lithuanian heart failure patients. He is a Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology (FESC) and is certified by the Lithuanian Medical Association in internal medicine and cardiology.

Dr. Jankauskas specializes in interventional cardiology including complex coronary interventions (CTO PCI, bifurcation stenting, left main PCI) and cardiac device therapy including ICD and CRT implantation for heart failure and sudden cardiac death prevention. He performs comprehensive echocardiography including advanced strain imaging for heart failure assessment. He manages the full spectrum of cardiovascular disease and leads a specialized heart failure clinic at Santara Clinics with a focus on optimizing guideline-directed medical and device therapy.

Dr. Jankauskas has published over 22 peer-reviewed articles in journals including the European Heart Journal, Heart Failure, and the Journal of the American College of Cardiology on CRT response predictors, heart failure with preserved ejection fraction management, heart failure epidemiology in Lithuania, and complex PCI outcomes in the Lithuanian population. He collaborates with cardiologists at the Amsterdam University Medical Centers in the Netherlands and at Karolinska University Hospital in Sweden, contributing Baltic cardiology data to European heart failure registry studies and CRT outcome databases.

Dr. Jankauskas speaks Lithuanian, Russian, and English and is experienced in providing cardiology consultations and second opinions to international patients.
