Dr. Vikash Ramessur

Dr. Vikash Ramessur is one of Mauritius's most distinguished cardiologists, practising at Apollo Bramwell Hospital in Moka — the island's premier private hospital and part of the Apollo Hospitals Group, one of Asia's foremost healthcare networks. With over 20 years of specialist experience and training at leading institutions in the United Kingdom and Europe, Dr. Ramessur offers a level of cardiac expertise and interventional capability that is exceptional not just for Mauritius but for the wider Indian Ocean region. Dr. Ramessur completed his MBBS at the University of Mauritius and pursued postgraduate medical training in the United Kingdom, earning his MRCP (UK) and subsequently his MD in Cardiology from the University of Leeds. He completed a specialist fellowship in interventional cardiology at the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust — one of the UK's leading centres for percutaneous coronary intervention and structural heart disease — and a further attachement in cardiac electrophysiology at the Hôpital Lariboisière in Paris, France. He was elected as a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of London (FRCP) and as a Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology (FESC). He maintains active membership of ESC working groups in interventional cardiology and heart failure.

Dr. Ramessur's interventional cardiology expertise encompasses the full range of percutaneous coronary procedures. He performs primary PCI for ST-elevation myocardial infarction — a time-critical procedure that requires Apollo Bramwell's 24/7 catheterisation laboratory activation capability — as well as elective PCI for stable coronary artery disease, including complex multi-vessel and left main disease. His electrophysiology skills include diagnostic EP studies, catheter ablation for supraventricular and ventricular arrhythmias, and implantation of pacemakers and implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs). He manages all forms of heart failure including advanced systolic dysfunction, and provides comprehensive echocardiographic assessment including transoesophageal echocardiography for structural heart disease evaluation. He leads Apollo Bramwell's heart failure clinic.

Dr. Ramessur has published research in the European Heart Journal and the Cardiovascular Journal of Africa on coronary artery disease epidemiology and outcomes of PCI in the Mauritian population and in the broader Indian Ocean region. He has contributed to PASCAR's multinational cardiovascular risk factor studies and has presented at the ESC Congress and the African Society of Cardiology annual meetings. He serves on the editorial board of the Mauritius Society of Cardiology's clinical guidelines committee.

Dr. Ramessur provides consultations in English, French, and Mauritius Creole, and is Apollo Bramwell Hospital's lead cardiologist for international patient cardiac services.
