Dr. Andrei Ciobanu

Dr. Andrei Ciobanu is a neurologist at the Republican Clinical Hospital Timofei Mosneaga in Chisinau, Moldova's principal tertiary care hospital. With 16 years of clinical neurology practice, he has developed expertise in stroke management, epilepsy, and cognitive disorders.

He completed neurology training at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy Grigore T. Popa in Iasi, Romania, developing strong clinical skills at one of Romania's premier academic medical centers. His Romanian training provided him with exposure to Western European neurology guidelines and clinical approaches.

Dr. Ciobanu has been instrumental in establishing a stroke unit protocol at the Republican Clinical Hospital, introducing thrombolysis for eligible acute ischemic stroke patients. This development has significantly improved stroke outcomes for Moldovan patients.

He is a member of the European Academy of Neurology and works to implement EAN guidelines in Moldovan neurological practice. He is known for his thorough diagnostic approach and his patient-friendly communication style in both Romanian and Russian.

Dr. Ciobanu received his MD from Nicolae Testemitanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Chisinau in 2005. He completed part of his neurology training at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy Grigore T. Popa in Iasi, Romania (2007–2009) before returning to the Republican Clinical Hospital for his full residency. His PhD from Nicolae Testemitanu University in 2013 focused on stroke epidemiology and thrombolysis outcomes in Moldova. He is a member of the European Academy of Neurology and is certified by the Ministry of Health of Moldova in neurology.

Dr. Ciobanu's clinical expertise covers the full spectrum of neurological disease. In stroke medicine, he leads thrombolysis decisions for acute ischemic stroke and manages secondary prevention. In epilepsy, he evaluates seizure disorders and prescribes antiepileptic drug therapy including EEG interpretation. In cognitive neurology, he diagnoses and manages Alzheimer's disease, vascular dementia, and other cognitive disorders. He also manages multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, headache disorders, and neuropathy. He performs EEG, EMG, nerve conduction studies, and lumbar puncture.

Dr. Ciobanu has published over 12 peer-reviewed articles in Moldovan and Romanian neurology journals. His research focuses on stroke incidence and outcomes in Moldova, epilepsy management in limited-resource settings, and dementia diagnosis in the Moldovan population. He collaborates with neurologists in Romania and participates in joint Moldovan-Romanian neurology educational programs.

Dr. Ciobanu speaks Romanian, Russian, and English and provides telemedicine consultations for Moldova's diaspora and neighboring country patients.
