Dr. Elena Cojocaru

Dr. Elena Cojocaru is a consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist at the Institute of Mother and Child in Chisinau — Moldova's leading maternal and paediatric healthcare centre and the principal national referral institution for high-risk obstetrics and complex gynaecology. With 12 years of OB/GYN practice, Dr. Cojocaru provides comprehensive women's health services including high-risk obstetric management, minimally invasive gynaecological surgery, and reproductive health assessment.

Moldova's healthcare system has undergone significant reform since the country's independence, and the Institute of Mother and Child represents the highest standard of women's healthcare available in the republic. Dr. Cojocaru trained in Moldova and has undertaken advanced training in Romania, bringing skills in laparoscopic surgery and reproductive medicine that elevate the standard of care available to Moldovan women.

Moldova's proximity to Romania — with which it shares a language, cultural heritage, and significant cross-border medical patient flows — means that Dr. Cojocaru's bilingual Romanian-Russian practice is particularly valuable. Dr. Cojocaru completed her medical degree (MD) at the Nicolae Testemitanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Chisinau — Moldova's national medical university, which provides training in both Romanian and Russian and produces the majority of Moldova's medical specialists. She completed her specialty in Obstetrics and Gynaecology through the Moldovan Ministry of Health specialist certification programme, training at the Institute of Mother and Child.

She undertook advanced training in laparoscopic gynaecological surgery and reproductive medicine at the Bucharest Clinical Emergency Hospital in Romania, building skills in endoscopic procedures not yet widely available in Moldova at the time of her training. She is a member of the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE) and participates in continuing education through the Romanian Society of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (SROGI) and Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Moldova (SOGM).

Dr. Cojocaru's clinical practice spans high-risk obstetrics and minimally invasive gynaecological surgery. In obstetrics, she manages pregnancies complicated by hypertension, preeclampsia, gestational diabetes, threatened preterm labour, placenta praevia, and multiple gestation. She performs emergency and elective caesarean sections and coordinates multidisciplinary care for patients with medical comorbidities requiring obstetric and specialist physician collaboration.

Her gynaecological surgery practice includes laparoscopic myomectomy (fibroid removal), laparoscopic ovarian cystectomy, and diagnostic and operative hysteroscopy for intrauterine pathology. She diagnoses and manages endometriosis through both medical and surgical approaches. For cervical pathology, she performs colposcopy, cervical biopsy, and LEEP (loop electrosurgical excision procedure) for cervical dysplasia management. She provides reproductive health consultation for women with subfertility and coordinates referrals to IVF centres where assisted reproduction is required.

Moldova's Institute of Mother and Child is accessible to patients from neighbouring Romania, Ukraine, and other former Soviet states. Dr. Cojocaru consults in Romanian (which is mutually intelligible with Moldovan), Russian, and English. Video consultations are available for international patients who wish to discuss their gynaecological investigations, pregnancy management, or surgical options before travelling to Chisinau.
