Dr. Aloma Ranibok

Dr. Aloma Ranibok is a medical officer at the Republic of Nauru Hospital, responsible for maternal and child health services for the Nauruan population. Dr. Ranibok completed her MBBS at the Fiji School of Medicine in Suva. She holds a Diploma in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and NRP (Newborn Resuscitation Programme) certification, and is IMCI-certified.

She has completed EmONC (Emergency Obstetric and Neonatal Care) training through the WHO Pacific programme and gestational diabetes management training through the IDF Pacific programme. She completed a clinical obstetric attachment at Colonial War Memorial Hospital, Fiji, and at Cairns Hospital, Australia, gaining experience in managing high-risk obstetrics in Pacific island settings. She participates in the POLHN continuing medical education programme.

Dr. Ranibok's clinical expertise reflects Nauru's unique obstetric challenges. She manages antenatal care with a strong focus on gestational diabetes screening and management, nutritional counselling for obese pregnant women, and monitoring for hypertensive disorders of pregnancy. She manages labour and delivery, and is skilled in managing the complications of macrosomic births common in Nauru.

For obstetric emergencies including postpartum haemorrhage, eclampsia, and obstructed labour, she provides initial management with coordination of medical evacuation to Fiji or Australia when the situation exceeds local capacity. In child health, she manages neonatal complications, childhood obesity (universal in Nauru), growth monitoring, respiratory infections, and immunisation.

Dr. Ranibok is dedicated to serving Nauru's women and children and to improving maternal and child health outcomes in the world's most obesity-affected nation. She has contributed to maternal health data through the Nauru Department of Health and participated in UNFPA Pacific maternal health assessments.

She collaborates with UNICEF Nauru, the WHO Pacific Office, and the IDF Pacific on gestational diabetes management and childhood obesity prevention in Nauru. Her clinical work on gestational diabetes management at Nauru Hospital has contributed to the WHO Pacific guidelines on NCD management in pregnancy.

The Republic of Nauru Hospital is Nauru's only healthcare facility, providing maternal and child health services for all Nauruan residents. Complex obstetric emergencies and neonatal cases requiring intensive care are referred to Fiji (Colonial War Memorial Hospital) or Australia (Cairns) through the government's medical referral programme.
