Dr. Aleksandar Dimovski

Dr. Aleksandar Dimovski is a senior interventional cardiologist at the University Clinic for Cardiology in Skopje, North Macedonia's primary cardiovascular referral center and an academic clinical institution affiliated with the Ss. Cyril and Methodius University. With 18 years of clinical experience, he is among North Macedonia's leading cardiologists.

He completed an interventional cardiology fellowship at the Cardiovascular Research Center in Athens, Greece — a natural training destination given geographic and cultural proximity. This fellowship gave him hands-on experience in a high-volume Greek center known for cardiac catheterization and complex PCI.

Dr. Dimovski returned to Skopje where he has been central to building the interventional cardiology program, expanding the catheterization laboratory capacity and introducing modern PCI techniques. He is an ESC member and participates in Balkan cardiology networks.

He is known for his precision in the catheterization laboratory and his commitment to aligning Macedonian cardiology practice with European Society of Cardiology guidelines.

Dr. Dimovski graduated from the Ss. Cyril and Methodius University Faculty of Medicine in Skopje in 2003. He completed his cardiology residency at the University Clinic for Cardiology and undertook an interventional cardiology fellowship at the Cardiovascular Research Center, Athens, Greece (2008–2009). His PhD from Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in 2012 focused on primary PCI outcomes in Macedonian STEMI patients. He is a member of the European Society of Cardiology and is certified by the Medical Chamber of North Macedonia in cardiology.

Dr. Dimovski's clinical expertise spans the full spectrum of interventional and general cardiology. His interventional practice covers primary PCI for acute STEMI — the most time-critical cardiac intervention — elective coronary angioplasty for stable coronary artery disease, complex multi-vessel PCI, and stent implantation including drug-eluting stents for optimal long-term outcomes. His echocardiography practice includes comprehensive transthoracic, Doppler, and stress echocardiography for assessment of ventricular function, valvular heart disease, cardiomyopathy, and pericardial conditions. General cardiology encompasses heart failure management with evidence-based pharmacotherapy, hypertension control, atrial fibrillation management including anticoagulation, and valvular heart disease monitoring. He coordinates with cardiac surgeons for patients requiring operative valve repair or coronary bypass surgery and participates in the acute MI on-call rotation at the University Clinic for Cardiology.

Dr. Dimovski has published over 14 peer-reviewed articles in Macedonian and regional Balkan cardiology journals, with research concentrated on primary PCI outcomes for STEMI management in North Macedonia, cardiovascular risk factor prevalence in the Macedonian population, and the development of the interventional cardiology programme at the University Clinic for Cardiology. His PhD research examined primary PCI outcomes in North Macedonian STEMI patients. He collaborates actively with cardiologists in Greece and Serbia, maintaining academic ties developed during his fellowship training. He presents research at the Macedonian Society of Cardiology annual meetings and at regional Balkan cardiology scientific conferences, contributing to the body of evidence on cardiovascular disease management in the Western Balkans.

Dr. Dimovski speaks Macedonian and English and is accessible to patients from the Macedonian diaspora community in Western Europe and to patients from neighboring Balkan countries — Kosovo, Albania, Bulgaria, and Serbia — who seek specialist cardiology care in Skopje. The University Clinic for Cardiology coordinates international patient consultations and can provide medical documentation in English. Cyril and Methodius University Faculty of Medicine and mentors cardiology residents and fellows in the catheterization laboratory.
