Dr. Elena Stojanovska

Dr. Elena Stojanovska is a medical oncologist at the University Clinic for Radiotherapy and Oncology in Skopje, North Macedonia's principal oncology center. With 14 years of clinical experience, she is a key member of the oncology team, managing breast cancer, colorectal cancer, and other solid tumors. She completed advanced oncology training at the Institute for Oncology and Radiology of Serbia in Belgrade and undertook ESMO educational programs to align her practice with European oncology guidelines. She participates in multidisciplinary tumor board meetings and is committed to implementing evidence-based cancer treatment in North Macedonia.

Dr. Stojanovska received her MD from Ss. Cyril and Methodius University Faculty of Medicine in Skopje in 2007. She completed her oncology residency at the University Clinic for Radiotherapy and Oncology and undertook advanced oncology training at the Institute for Oncology and Radiology of Serbia, Belgrade (2012–2013). She holds an MSc in Clinical Oncology from Ss. Cyril and Methodius University (2015). She is an ESMO member and is certified by the Medical Chamber of North Macedonia in oncology.

Dr. Stojanovska's clinical expertise covers the major solid tumors and haematological malignancies encountered in Macedonian oncology practice. Her breast cancer practice encompasses chemotherapy with anthracycline and taxane-based regimens, HER2-targeted therapy, and hormone therapy for hormone receptor-positive disease. For colorectal cancer, she administers FOLFOX, FOLFIRI, and platinum-based regimens. For lung cancer, she manages first-line and second-line chemotherapy and targeted therapy for eligible patients. She manages ovarian cancer with platinum-based chemotherapy and lymphoma with CHOP and R-CHOP regimens. She participates in multidisciplinary tumor board reviews at the University Clinic and coordinates with surgical and radiation oncology colleagues for integrated cancer care. She provides palliative oncology care and symptom management for patients with advanced or refractory disease.

Dr. Stojanovska has published peer-reviewed articles in Macedonian and regional Balkan oncology journals, with research focused on breast cancer epidemiology in North Macedonia, chemotherapy outcomes in locally advanced breast cancer, and the implementation of European oncology guidelines within the resource constraints of Macedonian clinical practice. She collaborates with oncologists at the Institute for Oncology and Radiology of Serbia in Belgrade and participates in Balkan oncology education networks. She has presented research at the Macedonian Society of Oncology Annual Meeting and at Balkan regional oncology conferences. She contributes to MSc oncology teaching at Ss. Cyril and Methodius University Faculty of Medicine, supporting postgraduate medical education in oncology in North Macedonia.

Dr. Stojanovska speaks Macedonian and English and is accessible to diaspora patients and international patients in North Macedonia requiring specialist oncology care. Video consultations are available for oncology second opinions, enabling patients in Western Europe — including the large Macedonian diaspora community — to discuss biopsy results, staging, treatment plans, and responses to chemotherapy remotely. She assists diaspora patients seeking specialist opinions on cancer management and patients considering referrals to larger regional oncology centers in Serbia, Slovenia, or Greece for treatments not available locally, such as advanced targeted therapies or clinical trial participation. The University Clinic for Radiotherapy and Oncology's patient coordination team assists with appointment scheduling and documentation.

Dr. Stojanovska received the Macedonian Society of Oncology Young Clinician Award in 2016, recognizing her early career contributions to oncology practice and multidisciplinary cancer care development in North Macedonia. She was recognized by the University Clinic for Radiotherapy and Oncology in Skopje for her leadership in developing structured tumor board processes and for implementing European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) treatment guidelines. She is an active ESMO member and participates in ESMO continuing education programs including ESMO clinical practice workshops. She contributes to teaching oncology to medical students and residents at Ss. Cyril and Methodius University Faculty of Medicine, helping to train the next generation of oncologists in North Macedonia.
