Dr. Marcin Wojciechowski

Dr. Marcin Wojciechowski is a consultant psychiatrist and researcher at the Instytut Psychiatrii i Neurologii (Institute of Psychiatry and Neurology) in Warsaw — Poland's leading psychiatric and neurological research institution and a WHO Collaborating Centre. With 18 years of specialist practice and a PhD in psychiatry, he combines clinical work with research, specialising in mood disorders, psychotic disorders, and forensic psychiatry.

Poland's mental health system has undergone significant reform, with increasing emphasis on community psychiatry and early intervention for psychosis. Dr. Wojciechowski works within this evolving landscape at Poland's premier psychiatric research and treatment centre, managing complex cases including treatment-resistant depression, bipolar disorder with rapid cycling, and schizophrenia requiring clozapine initiation.

His forensic psychiatry expertise brings him into courts and correctional contexts to assess mental capacity, criminal responsibility, and fitness to plead — a specialised area of psychiatric practice with significant legal implications. Dr. Wojciechowski completed his MD and PhD at the Medical University of Warsaw and his psychiatry residency at the Institute of Psychiatry and Neurology. He obtained specialist certification in Psychiatry through the Polish medical specialist board. He has completed ECT training, CBT and DBT supervisor training, and forensic psychiatry diploma courses. He is a member of the European Psychiatric Association and participates in EPA and World Psychiatric Association (WPA) continuing education programmes.

Dr. Wojciechowski provides comprehensive psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and pharmacological management. His mood disorder practice encompasses major depressive disorder (including treatment-resistant depression managed with augmentation strategies and ECT referral), bipolar I and II disorder (lithium, valproate, lamotrigine, atypical antipsychotics), and cyclothymia. For psychosis, he manages schizophrenia including clozapine initiation and monitoring for treatment-resistant cases.

Forensic psychiatry services include criminal responsibility assessments, fitness to plead evaluations, risk assessment for violence, mental health tribunal reports, and psychiatric assessments for medico-legal proceedings. He supervises CBT and DBT (dialectical behaviour therapy) for borderline personality disorder and complex PTSD. ECT is performed at IPN for severe, treatment-resistant depression and catatonia.
