About Dr. Al-Maadheed
Dr. Amal Al-Maadheed is a senior consultant paediatrician and neonatologist at Sidra Medicine in Doha — Qatar's academic medical centre for women's and children's health and one of the most advanced paediatric hospitals in the Middle East. With 20 years of clinical experience, she is a key figure in Qatar's neonatal and paediatric medicine services.
Sidra Medicine, affiliated with Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar and partnered with major global academic medical centres, operates one of the region's most sophisticated neonatal intensive care units (NICUs). Dr. Al-Maadheed trained in paediatrics in Qatar and the United Kingdom, obtaining her Membership of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (MRCPCH) — the UK's primary postgraduate credential in paediatrics.
She subsequently undertook subspecialty neonatology training and developed particular expertise in the management of premature and critically ill neonates, neonatal respiratory support, and neurodevelopmental follow-up. She leads the neurodevelopmental follow-up clinic for NICU graduates at Sidra, tracking outcomes and providing early intervention referrals for infants at developmental risk.
Dr. Al-Maadheed is also engaged in paediatric medical education at Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar, teaching paediatric trainees and medical students.

She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics (FAAP) and a member of the Qatar Medical Association.
Clinical Expertise & Procedures
Dr. Al-Maadheed's primary clinical focus is neonatology. In the NICU, she manages extremely premature neonates (from 24 weeks gestation), providing complex respiratory support including surfactant therapy, non-invasive ventilation (CPAP, HFNC), and mechanical ventilation. She manages neonatal sepsis, hyperbilirubinemia requiring phototherapy or exchange transfusion, hypoglycaemia, seizures, and necrotising enterocolitis.
Beyond the NICU, she provides general paediatric consultations covering child health surveillance, development, vaccination, acute childhood illness, and chronic conditions including asthma, allergy, and nutritional disorders. Her neurodevelopmental follow-up clinic provides comprehensive assessment and early intervention pathways for children with developmental concerns or prematurity-related developmental risk.
International Patient Services
Dr. Al-Maadheed consults in Arabic and English. Sidra Medicine has an established international patient programme and serves a large expatriate community in Qatar from over 100 nationalities. The hospital maintains JCI and other international accreditations and has English-language records and billing systems. For families of neonates requiring specialized NICU care — including families who have relocated to Qatar for work — Sidra provides comprehensive family-centred care with staff communication in English and Arabic. Video follow-up consultations are available for developmental paediatric assessments.
