Dr. Khalid Al Ansari

Dr. Khalid Al Ansari is a consultant electrophysiologist at the Hamad Medical Corporation Heart Hospital in Doha — Qatar's premier cardiac institution and one of the most technologically advanced heart hospitals in the Middle East. Qatar has invested extensively in healthcare infrastructure in preparation for and following the 2022 FIFA World Cup, and the HMC Heart Hospital reflects this commitment with state-of-the-art electrophysiology laboratories.

With 22 years of electrophysiology practice, Dr. Al Ansari is one of the most experienced arrhythmia specialists in the Gulf. His catheter ablation practice encompasses atrial fibrillation ablation using pulmonary vein isolation (cryoablation and radiofrequency), complex atrial flutter and supraventricular tachycardia ablation, and ventricular tachycardia ablation in patients with structural heart disease. He performs a high volume of device implantations including single and dual-chamber pacemakers, implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs), and cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) devices.

His atrial fibrillation management program at the Heart Hospital combines catheter ablation with comprehensive cardiovascular risk factor modification, recognizing that hypertension, obesity, and sleep apnea — all prevalent in Qatar — are important drivers of AF recurrence. He works closely with the heart failure team for CRT optimization and the structural heart team for left atrial appendage occlusion in anticoagulation-ineligible AF patients.

Dr. Al Ansari trained in the United States and holds the FHRS (Fellow of the Heart Rhythm Society) designation. He communicates in Arabic and English.

Dr. Al Ansari obtained his MBBS from Qatar University College of Medicine and Health Sciences and completed his Internal Medicine residency at Hamad Medical Corporation, acquiring broad internal medicine training in Qatar's largest academic medical system. He undertook a Cardiology Fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas — one of the US's most productive cardiovascular research institutions — before completing an Electrophysiology Fellowship at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, widely regarded as one of the world's foremost electrophysiology training programs and a global leader in complex arrhythmia ablation and device therapy. He holds the FHRS (Fellow of the Heart Rhythm Society) and FACC (Fellow of the American College of Cardiology) designations, and is board-certified in Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). He maintains active membership in the European Heart Rhythm Association (EHRA) and the Gulf Heart Association.

Dr. Al Ansari's electrophysiology practice encompasses catheter ablation using both radiofrequency and cryoablation for AF, SVT (AVNRT, AVRT, atrial tachycardia), and VT. He uses 3D electroanatomic mapping systems (CARTO, EnSite) for complex ablation cases. His device practice includes pacemaker implantation (single, dual, and physiological pacing including His-bundle and left bundle branch pacing), ICD implantation for primary and secondary prevention of sudden cardiac death, and CRT-P and CRT-D for heart failure with left bundle branch block. He performs lead extraction for infected or abandoned leads and evaluates syncope, palpitations, and presyncope with Holter, event recorder, and implantable loop recorder.

Dr. Al Ansari has published in Heart Rhythm, Journal of Cardiovascular Electrophysiology, and the International Journal of Cardiology on AF ablation outcomes, device therapy in Gulf populations, and the prevalence of arrhythmias in Qatar's multicultural patient population. He participates in HRS and ESC arrhythmia clinical trial networks and presents at the Heart Rhythm Society Scientific Sessions and the Gulf Heart Association annual congress.

The HMC Heart Hospital serves Qatar's diverse multinational population and increasingly attracts cardiac patients from neighboring Gulf states seeking electrophysiology expertise. Dr. Al Ansari consults in Arabic and English and provides pre-procedure video consultations for patients considering AF ablation or device therapy. He also offers video follow-up for device-implanted patients and AF patients who can have device interrogations performed remotely.

Dr. Al Ansari has received the HMC Clinical Excellence Award from Hamad Medical Corporation, recognizing his outstanding contributions to building and leading the Heart Hospital's electrophysiology service. He has received recognition from the Qatar Medical Association for his role in advancing cardiac electrophysiology care in Qatar, including establishing catheter ablation and device therapy programs meeting international benchmarks. He is a faculty member at the Gulf Heart Association symposium on arrhythmia, providing expert education to cardiologists across the GCC. He serves on the HRS International Committee and contributes to global efforts to extend access to electrophysiology expertise. He has been an invited faculty speaker at the Heart Rhythm Society Scientific Sessions and the EHRA Congress.
