Dr. Andrei Stănescu

Dr. Andrei Stănescu is a senior neurosurgeon at the University Emergency Hospital Bucharest, Romania's leading acute and complex surgical referral center. With 18 years of surgical experience, he has performed over 3,000 cranial and spinal procedures and is among Romania's most trusted neurosurgeons for complex cases.

Dr. Stănescu completed a fellowship in cerebrovascular neurosurgery at the Lariboisière Hospital in Paris, a renowned French center for vascular brain disease. This training gave him advanced expertise in aneurysm surgery, arteriovenous malformation management, and microsurgical techniques that he has brought back to Romanian practice.

He heads the neurovascular surgery program at the University Emergency Hospital and has established microsurgical and endovascular collaborative protocols that have improved outcomes for cerebrovascular patients in Bucharest. He is also an active spinal surgeon, performing minimally invasive spine procedures with a focus on rapid recovery.

Dr. Stănescu is an associate professor at Carol Davila University and is involved in training the next generation of Romanian neurosurgeons. He is committed to bringing Romanian neurosurgery to EU standards and actively participates in EANS quality improvement initiatives.

Dr. Stănescu received his MD from Carol Davila University of Medicine in Bucharest in 2003. He completed his neurosurgery residency at the University Emergency Hospital Bucharest and undertook a cerebrovascular surgery fellowship at Lariboisière Hospital, Paris (2008–2009). His PhD from Carol Davila University in 2012 focused on microsurgical versus endovascular approaches to intracranial aneurysms. He holds certification from the European Board of Neurological Surgery and is a member of the European Association of Neurosurgical Societies (EANS).

Dr. Stănescu's surgical expertise spans cranial, spinal, and vascular neurosurgery. In vascular surgery, he performs microsurgical clipping of cerebral aneurysms, resection of arteriovenous malformations, and cavernous malformation surgery. In brain tumor surgery, he performs craniotomies for gliomas and meningiomas using neuronavigation and intraoperative monitoring. In spine surgery, he performs microdiscectomy, laminectomy, and spinal fusion for disc disease, stenosis, and instability. He also performs endoscopic pituitary tumor surgery and manages hydrocephalus with shunt procedures.

Dr. Stănescu has published over 30 peer-reviewed articles in journals including Acta Neurochirurgica and the Romanian Neurosurgery Journal. His research focuses on microsurgical aneurysm clipping outcomes, minimally invasive spine surgery results, and neuronavigation-assisted tumor resection accuracy. He collaborates with neurosurgical groups in France and presents at EANS annual meetings.

Dr. Stănescu speaks Romanian, French, and English and regularly sees international patients for neurosurgery consultations and second opinions. The University Emergency Hospital provides English and French-language consultation reports and coordinates international patient referrals.
