Dr. Dmitry Sokolov

Dr. Dmitry Sokolov is a senior interventional cardiologist at the Sechenov University Clinic in Moscow, affiliated with I.M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University — Russia's oldest and most prestigious medical institution. With 22 years of clinical experience, he has established himself as one of Russia's leading cardiologists.

Dr. Sokolov completed advanced training in interventional cardiology at the German Heart Centre (Deutsches Herzzentrum Berlin) in Germany, gaining expertise in complex coronary interventions and cardiac device therapy. He returned to Moscow where he has built a comprehensive interventional cardiology program at the Sechenov University Clinic.

He holds a Doctor of Medical Sciences degree — Russia's highest academic qualification — and is a professor at Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University. He has trained numerous cardiology residents and fellows throughout his career.

Dr. Sokolov graduated from I.M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University in 1999. He completed his cardiology residency (ordinatura) at the Sechenov University Clinic and undertook advanced training at the Deutsches Herzzentrum Berlin (German Heart Centre Berlin), Germany (2004–2005). His PhD from Sechenov University in 2006 focused on coronary artery disease in high-risk patient populations. He subsequently earned his Doctor of Medical Sciences degree in 2014 for research on complex coronary intervention outcomes. He is a member of the European Society of Cardiology.

Dr. Sokolov specializes in complex coronary interventions including bifurcation stenting, CTO PCI, and left main artery interventions. He performs comprehensive echocardiography including advanced strain imaging, and cardiac device implantation including ICD and CRT devices. He manages heart failure patients including optimization of medical and device therapy, and coordinates with cardiac surgeons for valve disease and surgical revascularization decisions. He also manages acute coronary syndromes including primary PCI for STEMI.

Dr. Sokolov has published over 45 peer-reviewed articles in Russian and international cardiology journals including Kardiologiya and the European Heart Journal. His research program focuses on complex PCI outcomes, heart failure device therapy, and cardiovascular risk in the Russian population. He has been a principal investigator in multinational cardiology trials and collaborates with European cardiac centers.
