Dr. Natalya Volkónskaya

Dr. Natalya Volkónskaya is a medical oncologist at the N.N. Blokhin National Medical Research Centre of Oncology in Moscow, Russia's premier cancer research and treatment institution and one of the largest oncology centers in Eastern Europe. With 18 years of clinical experience, she has developed specialized expertise in breast cancer and molecular oncology.

The Blokhin Centre is a comprehensive cancer center conducting both clinical care and fundamental research, and Dr. Volkónskaya has been actively involved in the center's research programs. She participated in ESMO-affiliated training programs before 2022 and has maintained her engagement with international oncology guidelines.

She leads a multidisciplinary approach to breast cancer care, working with surgical oncologists, radiation oncologists, and pathologists to develop individualized treatment plans. She has been involved in implementing molecular tumor profiling programs at the Blokhin Centre.

Dr. Volkónskaya is known for her thorough approach to patient consultation and her dedication to ensuring patients understand their diagnosis, treatment options, and expected outcomes. She provides telemedicine services for patients in Russia's regions and for CIS countries patients.

Dr. Volkónskaya graduated from the Russian National Research Medical University (RNRMU, Pirogov University) in Moscow in 2003. She completed her oncology residency at the N.N. Blokhin National Medical Research Centre of Oncology and undertook training in molecular oncology at the Centre's research laboratory. Her PhD from RNRMU in 2010 focused on HER2 amplification and targeted therapy outcomes in Russian breast cancer patients. She is a member of RUSSCO and ESMO and is certified by the Russian Ministry of Health in medical oncology.

Dr. Volkónskaya's primary clinical focus is breast oncology, with expertise in all stages and molecular subtypes of breast cancer. She designs and administers anthracycline and taxane-based chemotherapy, HER2-targeted therapy (trastuzumab, pertuzumab, T-DM1), CDK4/6 inhibitors, mTOR inhibitors, and hormone therapy regimens. She also treats ovarian, lung, colorectal, and gastric cancers. She integrates molecular profiling including HER2, HR status, and Ki-67 into treatment selection and participates in multidisciplinary tumor board meetings.

Dr. Volkónskaya has published over 25 peer-reviewed articles in Russian and international oncology journals. Her research focuses on breast cancer molecular subtypes in Russian patients, HER2-targeted therapy real-world outcomes, and the implementation of molecular profiling in clinical practice. She has contributed to Russian national cancer guidelines and participates in RUSSCO research programs.

Dr. Volkónskaya speaks Russian and English and provides telemedicine consultations for patients from Russia's regions and CIS countries. The Blokhin Centre has an international patient department serving patients from CIS countries. Video consultations are available for second opinions and treatment planning reviews. The Centre offers high-quality oncology care with access to domestically produced and imported oncology drugs.

Dr. Volkónskaya received the RUSSCO Award for Clinical Research Excellence in 2016.
