Dr. Aminata Fall

Dr. Aminata Fall is a specialist obstetrician and gynaecologist at Hôpital Aristide le Dantec, one of Dakar's principal public hospitals and a major centre for women's health services in Senegal. With 17 years of specialist practice, she is one of the most experienced obstetrician-gynaecologists in the Senegalese public health system, combining a high-volume obstetric practice with surgical gynaecology and reproductive health counselling. Dakar carries a significant maternal mortality burden, and Dr. Fall has devoted much of her career to improving the management of obstetric emergencies at Hôpital le Dantec, including the pre-eclampsia, eclampsia, and postpartum haemorrhage that account for a large share of maternal deaths in Senegal. She trained entirely at the Université Cheikh Anta Diop (UCAD) in Dakar and built her career within the Senegalese public health system, where she now serves as a senior clinical supervisor for the hospital's obstetric and gynaecology residents. She communicates fluently in French and Wolof — the two languages most widely used by women presenting to Dakar's public hospitals — and is active in the Société Sénégalaise de Gynécologie-Obstétrique (SSGOF) and in FIGO's regional networks.

Dr. Fall completed her Doctorat en Médecine at the Université Cheikh Anta Diop de Dakar. She trained as a specialist in Gynaecology and Obstetrics within UCAD's Faculté de Médecine, Pharmacie et d'Odontologie, completing the Diplôme d'Études Spécialisées (DES) in Gynécologie-Obstétrique. Her specialist training was conducted at Hôpital Aristide le Dantec and the associated UCAD teaching hospitals, providing exposure to a high-volume obstetric setting and to a range of gynaecological surgical procedures. She has attended continuing medical education workshops supported by FIGO, UNFPA, and the Senegalese Ministry of Health on safe motherhood, postpartum haemorrhage management, and colposcopy training for cervical cancer prevention.

Dr. Fall manages high-risk obstetric cases including pre-eclampsia and eclampsia, which require intensive monitoring and timely delivery; postpartum haemorrhage, which she manages using surgical and pharmacological haemostatic techniques; ectopic pregnancy requiring emergency laparotomy; and obstructed and prolonged labour requiring operative delivery. She performs caesarean sections, both elective and emergency. In gynaecology, she performs myomectomy for symptomatic uterine fibroids, total abdominal hysterectomy, laparotomy for adnexal pathology, and colposcopy with LLETZ for cervical dysplasia. She offers family planning counselling and outpatient gynaecology assessment for conditions including endometriosis, PCOS, recurrent miscarriage, and sexually transmitted infections in pregnancy. She is the clinical lead for obstetric emergency protocols at Hôpital le Dantec.

Dr. Fall has published in the Revue Africaine de Gynécologie-Obstétrique and has contributed to FIGO-coordinated studies on postpartum haemorrhage outcomes in West African obstetric settings. She has participated in Senegalese Ministry of Health assessments of maternal near-miss events and obstetric fistula prevalence in Dakar's public hospitals. Her clinical work on cervical dysplasia detection through colposcopy has contributed to SSGOF's national cervical cancer prevention advocacy. She has presented at SSGOF's annual scientific congress on high-risk obstetric management at Hôpital le Dantec.

Dakar is a major regional hub for women's health services, attracting patients from Guinea-Bissau, The Gambia, Guinea, and Mali who travel to Senegal for specialist obstetric and gynaecological care. Hôpital Aristide le Dantec serves a diverse international patient population, and Dr. Fall is experienced in managing women from neighbouring countries with different linguistic and cultural backgrounds. Diaspora Senegolese women from France, Italy, and Spain who return to Dakar during pregnancy or for gynaecological surgery also form part of her patient base. Appointments can be arranged through the hospital's gynaecology and obstetrics outpatient clinic. Consultations are conducted in French or Wolof.

Dr. Fall has been recognised by the Société Sénégalaise de Gynécologie-Obstétrique (SSGOF) for her contribution to obstetric emergency management and her clinical mentorship of resident physicians. She has been acknowledged by the Senegalese Ministry of Health for her engagement in national safe motherhood initiatives. FIGO has recognised her as a committed participant in West African regional women's health advocacy. Hôpital Aristide le Dantec has acknowledged her as one of the department's most experienced and dedicated clinicians.
